What is the point of having a Klingon Faction?

I know the reason of having at least two factions in an MMO, but for this game I am just not seeing it.

I have just spent the last few hours flying around in my Bird of Prey with my Lieutenant Commander lvl 2 in the tiny little Klingon space looking for something to do and this is what I noticed:

- I was the only one, I didn’t see a single player controlled ship, not one in I don’t know how many hours. And not a peep on the chat box, It seemed like my guy was the only Klingon in the galaxy.

- I couldn’t join any PVP battles of any kind, flying up to a planet or whatever didn’t work, when I tried to join with the queue I would wait about 10 or more minutes, then get the enter battle window, then get told that I couldn’t join because there weren’t enough players.

- The one time I did get in to a PVP match it was a space arena, and it was me and two other Lt.Cmdr. lvl 2 Klingons vs. six Federation ships one of which was a lvl 6 Lt Cmdr and another one was lvl 8. So 2:1 against with two of theirs being much higher than us, it didn’t go so well.

- Being the only Klingon in the Galaxy, trying to do any of the war zone maps resulted in me trying to solo a planet full of borg drones, or a space map full of borg ships with a few Federation ships thrown in. Those also didn’t go so well either, but now I see why the “good day to die” missions exist.

- Whenever I tried to enter combat in the Kahless Expanse the game crashed for some reason

- So that just left exploring the T’ong nebula as the only thing to do. And I am sick of that, exploration sucks in this game, and it only gives about 50xp each time I finish doing a three system mission batch.

So what the Hell are Klingons supposed to do in this game?

I say if Cryptic isn’t going to make the Klingon faction worth doing then they should just scrap it and spend their time on developing the Federation side. Even the Federation has a pathetic amount of content, so instead of having two ****** undeveloped factions have just one mediocre faction, with a playable amount of end game content.

But from what I have heard instead of trying to fix the Klingons and Federation they are going to introduce a third playable faction. Well I think that is a brilliant idea. Probably the next thing they will do is not bother improving this game at all and just let it die and make another ****** sequel and call it something like Star Trek Champions Online.

I've been subscribed since launch, but I waited this long to make a Klingon because it took until now for them to give Klingons PvE quests. I've done the two I have the level for, which were quite good, and now I've put my Klingon back on the shelve for a couple weeks until the next batch comes out.

Yeah, Klingons are sparse compared to the Feds - but you apparently posted this when most of the U.S. is sound asleep. :p I wouldn't expect many people to be on in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

If Klingons get scrapped, I'm out for good. Even with its severely unfinished state, I have far more fun Klingon-side than Fed-side.

Nope - dstahl said a while back that any 3rd faction is on hold until Klingons are up to speed. Might be a while, though...

Well that is a relief, my faith in Cryptic has slightly gone up.

Uhh... the next couple are out. You will unlock the next two when you hit commander. You'll have to play to do that. There is eight total.

Sorry. Poorly explained on my part. The weekly, faction independent missions start in two weeks. Between those and a little exploration, eventually I'll get to the commander lvl missions. But I don't want to grind just to get to story line missions. Had my fill of that in PotBS.

I'm sure I'm not the only one whose realised a dramatic upturn in Klingons from LTC +? It's nearly brought me to tears of joy to see how glorious our middle ranks are looking! :p The klingon faction is certainly strenghtening. Having around 20 players + simultaneoulsy per night and doing our own House only STFs just goes to prove that things are moving in the right direction.

Nice work Dstahl & team. keep i up :D
    Qapla!

My Klingon couldn't get into the Commander Level queues last night because there weren't enough Feds. It confused me :D

    Simple; you missed the bus.

When I created my Klingon character shortly after launch, there was a larger player-base than there is now and a more active PvP community. It wasn't difficult to frequently get into matches and I leveled nearly completely on PvP alone, all the way to Brigadier General.

With the new Season 2 patch, I suspect a lot of people are on their main characters, either finishing leveling to VA1/LG1 or doing their dailies or whatever. When Season 2 launched, a lot of people made new Klingons but it seems, as I suspected, most of them aren't playing them anymore... or very sparsely.

There aren't as many people leveling up and doing a lot of PvP, both Federation and Klingon side... especially the way the queues are now. Besides PvP, there's nothing at all interesting for Klingons to do besides the 8 new story episodes. You can either stick around and bear it; grind out your XP and get into whatever PVP you can, or you can wait for more content. Who knows how long that will take. To be honest, I've heard nothing in the way of new Klingon content save for some new ships -- I suspect the devs are hoping weekly episodes are going to solve the problem without them having to put any effort into fixing issues.

I agree that PvP needs nothing short of an overhaul regarding the mini game queing system. I'd also love to see Open PvP zones that can be captured/taken/conquered etc. But i thought you'd be pleased that someone like me whose been playing Klingon a lot shorter time than you and not long before Season 2 has a totally different and more positive outlook on representing the faction than you do. I'm not unique in this either as I've joined an excellent & friendly House fleet and so have many more in only the time I've been playing. Isn't this a good thing?

Maybe It's not as glorious as the "good old days", but quite frankly there's nothing I or anyone else can do about that now. What I would advocate is that things are defo on the up (as seen with my own eyes from when I started my Klingon) and that the Faction's flatline has been seen, felt and passed by (as long as Dstahl & co keep at it).

I'll keep my boney ridged fingers crossed :D

    Buchanon,

It's good to hear positive comments from new KDF players. I'm just a bit jaded and a touch pessimistic, I suppose. Don't let my statements discourage you from playing and leveling up! :D

Last night the Klingon side was practically crowded! Everywhere I went I saw fellow warriors seeking The Way. As mentioned before, the PvP queues were full of Klingons waiting for Federation Khuve to come out of hiding and face us.

Now that I've done the episodes, I've shelved my klingon couple of levels from max level. The basic klingon gameplay is just too boring and limited and pvp queues too long. I made the whole character to fly a carrier, but the reality of carrier suckage (the turn rate makes me want to kill myself in pve missions) and the even heavier suckage of Kar'fi (can't see the point of those BO slots at all) aren't exactly encouraging. Maybe I'll play again if orion/gorn ships actually come in at some point and they're designed to actually work.

Wanted: real klingon side sci ship, real carrier.

I was able to unlock the Klingon faction the first day of headstart, I had him BG in only a couple days. And back then we didnt have any explore missions, all we had was kahless expanse (And the ones that followed shortly there after) Pvp was great for the first few teirs, but I found most people who where playing Klingons lvled so fast, we had no one to pvp against at higher lvls as Feds where busy with quests. The Klingons have recieved a number of improvemtns since launch and are looking pretty good now, Once the fix the current pvp issue, The Klingons will be alot more fun to play again. I also find once you get to Lt General, the game really gets good as you have access to everything from Deep space encounters, Fleet actions, quests etc..
And once we get our T5 refits, I think you will see more and more people playing there Klingons.

Not to point out the obvious, but this weekend was welcome back weekend. I'm going to bet a lot of those Klingons playing this weekend were just here for the free weekend playtime. Lets see what it looks like next weekend before anyone gets excited about more Klingons.

As a klingon, if your having a problem finding other Klingons to ride with, Join a Fleet. Simples as that, because the game is all about instances, there are more of us then you think online. In my fleet alone we usually have between 15-20 people on at any time. And considering the biggest group you need is five, it shouldnt be hard to get a group for a mission. Long Live The Empire !!

P.S. Death To The United Federation of Carebears!!

Is any one else having problems with the Khaless Expanse? Every time I enter a combat map the game crashes. It is the only place that happens, if I could play in there I would have a bit more to do than wait half an hour or so for a PVP Queue.

Slowly I'm getting tired of the ignorance Cryptic does to the Klingons. I'm deeply disappointed that the Devs have shown no evidence of new Klingon content to us. Although some of the new missions are nice, they contain lots of bugs. Seems to be rushed to frowsomething at the arguing players and keep us paying the subscriptions.

Some friends of mine came back this weekend to try out Season 2 and they were badly disappointed, they will definitly not come back any more. Klingon content is to scarse and boring, while all the Feds get content after content update. Just rename this game Federation Online, that's what it is.

I was in the kahless exspanse on the weekend without trouble, I would say file a bug petition, and try quickly going in with an alt and see if they have the same problem.

I agree that this wasnt the best weekend to have there promotion for returning players. Klingons must be patient, as yes we are a faction..but we are verry small compared to The Federation. So yes, Feds will get what they want before us..deal with it. Klingons are an afterthough, we wernt even suppsoed to be playable until the next exspansion pack. But they decided to give the Klingon fans something to do unil then and released what they had at launch. Best thing to do is play a character on both factions, that way you will allways have something to do.
