I've been leveling up a Klingon faction character, and I noticed at certain points, I seem to run into a stream of bad luck on the Exploration missions. I go into a map, and I won't get the "Mission acquired..." dialog, yet I will get a list of Objectives.
Upon completion of these bugged/broken missions, I will not receive the "Mission complete" skill points, however, It does give me a +1 for my X/3 Exploration missions in Y nebula goal. On a few others, you'll get objectives, but the npcs aren't spawned, so it's even impossible to do the objective.
The problem is, that bonus Skill Point turns it from repetition, into mind numbing, tedious, and frustrating "why the hell am I bothering with Klingons" grinding, as it will take QUITE a bit longer to reach a new level, and get your carrot (new ability or ship).
I decided to keep track, because, it gave me something to do while waiting for a loading screen. So, while waiting to zone, I'd make a tick for fails or successes.
Here's what I've found. At Captain 8, I noticed a lot of failures, easily over 80%, but wasn't keeping track, and got into Captain 9 that night before quitting. The next play session, is when I decided to keep track.
What I noticed was that at Captain 9-10, I had exactly a 50% failure rate. To give you an idea, that was 18 attempts to zone in, and get a mission, where 9 where successes, and 9 did not give me a mission.
I left, to go get my new ship at BG1, and when I came back, I noticed the same significant failure rate as I did at Captain 8. Keeping track, it totaled 20 attempts, with a mere 2 successes at getting a missions and bonus for completing the objectives. That's absurd!
So, Cryptic, 2 things changed here. My level, and I zoned in and out of the nebula. Now, without the bonus Skill Points for the objective completion, well, those count for a majority of the Skill Points you gain to level up, without getting them on 90% of the missions, it takes significantly longer to grind these out and level up. Frustratingly longer.
Please look into this, due to the variety of missions in exploration encounters, ground/space/destroy/interact, it at least helps the grind feel less tedious, and you can go from one to the next without having to depend on PvP, or the mindless repetition of Defense missions. If you can get these working most of the time (at least more than 50% of the time), rewarding that bonus skill points on objective completion for each one, it's definitely a decent way to grind a Klingon faction character IMO.
Ditto, supposedly the exploration mission tech has been completely redone for season 2 (iirc), hopefully this and the other exploration problems will die soon.
Gatness, overall, it's not 90%, however, like I said, in some level ranges, it definitely was for me. BG1 I saw 2/20 working missions, that's 90% exactly. At that point I just do the space combat missions (ship kills at least give you decent skill points for time spent), and the destroy/interact with object missions to keep my Exploration 3/3 within the 30 minute cooldown frame.
EDIT: DKeith2011, I'm planning to copy my character to test server and trying it out this weekend to see if I get similar results... and hopefully a cool Tribble.
Just ran 3 Explorations on Tribble, 3 out of 3 successes. Looking better. With this and the new KDF PvE content, we may actually see a decent amount of Klingon faction members playing.
As an update, now that the Season 2 patch is released I'm still seeing broken missions for Explorations. I've been doing the Azure daily and still seen a "Defeat 0/8" with no spawns. I had a "Defend Base" mission with no spawns, really excited about it too because I love Defend missions.
However, I did have an issue with the dialog, but that's been fixed, which is probably the problem I had with a ground mission with no spawns after the initial spawn in. Since I couldn't go through the dialog, the rest of the spawns never beamed down.
I do see that I'm getting missions though, more frequently. So that's nice.
For w while I struggled with them and posted a bug report for every error I came across. Because you get no feedback form cryptic I had no idea if that was useful so I gave up on them entirely.
I had one instance where all my exploration missions were the same bugged one over and over. I would aproach planet, it would say beam down. I hit ok and warp out of the system.
