Because of what cryptic did to Klingons, you really have no choice other then to grind the pve ships spawn in the exact same place maps like kahless or something

Empire defense against cardassian/romulan/borg threat given by Lt. Mara (I think it´s her) gives loads of points. Also I did normal grinding missions giving you at least 3-4 bars for the 3 missions.

If your tired of killing mobs of ships, then do the Klingon Exploration missions.. some of 'em are buggy as all get out, but they do pay out badges which you can spend for weapons and gear. Its somewhat mind numbing...But at least its there..

Its a painful grind now. For a while after launch PVP was abundant and fun. But now its pretty hard to do, and with Feds getting bigger, more diverse chunks of skills from their missions, its so much more painful to level a Klingon.

Its going to get easier, hopefully, with the new missions coming out.

But for the most part, the biggest and fastest chunks of skill points come from the empire defense missions in the nebulas. Of course you can do exploration missions too.

Something that people probably don't realize, though, is that killing stuff in the fleet actions in a full team can give a lot of skill points fast. The Federation Minefield is great because of the absolute mess of ships everywhere.

I just reached Brig. Gen last two nights ago, and despite all the grinding, it was worth it to have the ship and be almost at the Borg Space.

What's bad about the Exploration missions though, is at Captain and above you start to hit a point where a majority of the missions don't give you an actual mission. So, you complete the objective(s), but you don't get that bonus skill point chunk at the end of each one.

What I've tried to do is, if I don't see a "Mission accepted: ..." when I zone in a space mission, or beam down to a planet or base, I leave the map and look for a non-broken one. Which isn't so bad earlier on when most of them work okay, but at Captain level (particularly in the 35+ level range), it's excruciating when about 90% of them are broken, and you leave a broken one, then have to travel to another anomaly to scan and get into a new mission map...

If you don't do that, then you basically end up doing 3 Exploration missions for approximately 155SP (+kills), equaling around 300-400 SP per hour. Which WOULD indeed be mind numbing.

When you get 3 working missions and complete them in the minimal cooldown though, you effectively get 155 or so SP per mission, plus the bonus 155 SP for the Exploration objective, so around 650-850 depending on the amount of kill SP per 30 minutes, or a 1300-1700 per hour! Which is quite decent, and if you keep it up, you can get what amounts to a level every hour or so! It's not exactly mind numbing repetition since it can vary between space combat and ground combat as well as the scan/destroy object missions, which is basically what all the other missions in Federation are anyhow, but the Feds get a nice storyline wrapped around it, and occasionally really cool mobs to fight (Doomsday Device).

So, I prefer the Exploration stuff because it changes it up a bit, and isn't constant space combat like the Defend missions are.

Although, there are some things I think are broken about it, for instance, ground combat takes far longer than space combat. I can blow up a Cruiser/Escort/Sci ship in about 20-30 seconds or so, and get 15 SP currently, or the Battleships give 20 SP and take about as long. However, the little 3 Frigate packs usually take me longer to defeat, and only give 3 SP per ship, which amounts to 9 SP for the pack, and it takes around 30+ seconds to beat 'em all down. Which isn't at all equivalent in a time to kill/SP basis.

What's even worse is ground combat, where you get 1 SP per kill, and it can take far longer to get through a pack (I think around a minute per pack for me). So I basically get something like 5-8 SP per pack.

Travel time to next mob being around 10 seconds...
So, killing a medium to large ship is, with travel time added, ~20 SP per minute.
A small ship (3 packs) with travel time is close to 15 SP per minute.
Ground combat is closer to 6 SP per minute, probably worse.

It would seem to me the best option would be the defend missions, and just going after medium or larger ships, but it's just so mind numbingly tedious. However, you don't have to worry about broken missions (since Explorations are easily more broken than not in the higher level range) since you get what amounts to a similar bonus to completion of 3 Explorations missions (without the bonus all 3 exploration done) and you get the ship combat SP bonus for kills.

However, doing the Defend missions solo, which is usually what ends up happening from what I've seen, means they go pretty slow (not able to do 3 per 30 minutes) and I think you only get 1 per 10 levels, and the SP for completion continues to drop over time. Whereas the Exploration completions, since they are given at your level, give you more and more SP as you level up, except of course, the Exploration turn in, which does dwindle, but generally that change should be minor compared to how much SP you get per hour.

Anyhow, I kinda rambled there, but overall, it seems best to do the Defend missions as you get access to them, then do the Exploration missions after a couple levels of Defend missions (when the SP reward for completion of Defend missions start dropping, and the SP per kill drops due to the NPC's being lower level than you).

The Exploration missions, since you get both ground and space combat also allow you to get used to your skills, and see how they work, which is the whole point of leveling anyhow.

EDIT: Although, if you can get a group with one or more other players going in the Defend missions so you finish them up at the same time your Defend mission cooldown expires, and are able to take the next one (which I think is 3 every 30 minutes off-hand), that would definitely be ideal.

EDIT 2: Also, Season 2 is going to bring some PvE missions to the Klingon side, it may help alleviate some issues and the tedium with leveling. So, you may just want to wait till then before getting serious on the Klingon side.

I love the Universal slots of the Klingon BoP's and the Carrier just seems completely awesome, so I've been really grinding it out to get all of it. In the past 2 weeks with pretty limited game time, I've been able to get from LC - Captain 9 right now. Should be able to hit at least RA 1 tonight, and my solace is that at 43, at least I get some PvE Borg stuff to finally make things interesting.

Another thing that helps is to have goals. Grind till I get the new power at levels #3, or #5 or #8... and then a new ship at #1! Replace # with the tens level your currently at. So, 11, 13, 15, 18, or 21... etc. Since Science abilities were new to me, it's been fun getting new ones and getting to play with 'em to see how the work.

I am right there with the OP, took me a week to go from lc5 to lc10 due to the fact that I almost never get into any PvP, and I can't stand the PvE for more than 20 min at a time. I don't know how many more times I can kill tribbles before I just don't feel like a Klingon any more. Yey killed a small defenseless creature, FOR THE EMPIRE! I mean seriously, who thought that this would be fun?! Can't we get some NPC Kling children to go stomp on them instead? And why are we destroying weapon caches?? Just beam them aboard the ship and say thanks for the free guns! Eh just personal pet peeves of mine....

The problem isn't that levelling is to slow now. The problem is that it was too fast earlier.

Content is needed to make the leveling process more entertaining. But you really shouldn't be able to go from Warrior to General in the course of a couple of weeks. It should take months of dedicated play to max a chacacter's level.

Amen brother. I haven't experienced this first hand, mainly because I refuse to play a Fed toon past the point I needed to to get access to the Kling side, but yea I am 100% behind ya on this!

That's a minority view, casual MMO's are where the money is at. Blizzard has more than proven that.

The grind wasn't always like this. When STO first came out, PvP xp rewards actually made "grinding" via PvP worthwhile. Back then, there was no shortage of Feds looking for PvP at all ranks. The problem was that there were waaaaaaaaaaayyy more Feds trying to get into PvP and so very few Klingons to oblige. For a KDF player back then, all you had to do was que up and within a minute or two, you were going into a match.

But Cryptic killed the XP rewards, and with fewer PvP going on (esp. for those levelling up still), what you have is the current state to grind for the KDF.

It took me 2 days and 1 hour total time spent to level my klingon...it was really easyi started this monday and today i am BG 5, and leveling was fun, killing bad guys in nebulas\pvping\exploration, and i never even gave myself a thought of doing some fancy story quest. i just want my negh'var and eng captain, again, it was easy and fast. Now i think i will abandon my ultimate pewpew fed Captain and stick with klingon, coz they are awsome.

I have only two suggestions for lvling a Klingon.

    1. Aim for 1 lvl a day.

    2. Play in a group.

I kind of agree here... I've been leveling up a Tactical Alien in a BoP and it's a bit of a time crunch. Not nearly as fast as the Federation side, but hopefully this will change soon. I made it to Captain last night just by doing PvP mostly but would love to see some additional PvE content to aid in the leveling process.

I went from new guy to level cap in 29 days of almost nothing but PvP.
Then again, that was before FvF play and right after game launch, so there was plenty of action.
I started a second, but found the grind too painful to do again.
I am extremly underwhelmed at the Klingon side of STO.
I didn't get the game to play a smoothhead, I am here for the Empire.

Don't get too excited about season 2, the content is as all the Klingon PvE content has been, limited and lackluster. Try it on Tribble to see what I mean.
And the Carrier pretty much is a POS, IMOHPO.
The new one is worse than the original one.
With every update they've said "New Klingon Content!" it has turned out to be but a band aid on an artereal wound compared to the huge variety of missions the Feds have.
I figure after a couple of years, they might have sufficent Klingon content, but it will never be anything close to the amount nor quality of the Fed content.

The Chaos nebula with a group at Captain level makes all 10 levels go by very quickly. The hard part is finding other captain level players online.

You get 900XP for each 3 you do - and about 600XP in a group of 4 killing the ships to do 3. Basically like a deep space encounter on the Fed side. It comes in at around 1500 XP an hour. In a 4 hour night, with a few PvP matches to break the grind up, you can gain about 5000+XP.

Makes it easy to go from CDR10 - BG1 in about a week - but again you need friends to do it quickly.
