Breathing new life in to an old empire

Just an idea I thought would add some spark and bring in new Klingon Warriors....and new races.

The Hydran Kingdom has insulted the Lyran for the last time. The Lyran hastily turn to their allies (Klingon Empire) for support. They have agreed to be absorbed into the Mighty Empire with just two requirements, the conquering of Hydra and a seat on the counsel. With Hydrans and Lyran now added to the Empire they would have the power and numbers to conquer the Tholians.

So there you have it, 3 new races, many new ships and new space to discover.

They'd TRIBBLE it up. Being honest, but Lyrans were a race, that used heavy amount of fighters/carrier tactics. Just look at the KDF carrier, I think not. If it were done right, I'd be all for that, Tholian, Kzinti, ISC, Adroms, Romulans, Dominion, and the like. They'd add some nice tactics and fresh views for players, even if they were still on a faction (2 side game, Fed/KDF)

That all said, in all honesty, the games lacks the core mechanics to make a lot of races, worth a damn. Either due to no 360 movement, or that speed and turn rates equate only to weapon arc time on target. A player can't do 1/2 the stuff, that would actually be used, nor do they do some of the current weapon systems any justice.

There is also no way of actually putting ship class/type/design vs same, without getting into a balance issue. IE, most escorts could not solo a cruiser, just that simple.

Most likely, if they do just make it a playable "race", it'll be like Fed Klingons, just a reskin, nothing new.

I would be fine with reskins on some ships, just add a weapon type bonus. Lets say the Klingon carrier had a disruptor damage buff (as it should) and the Hydran carrier reskin would have a buff to hellbores (Hellbores would be awesome!), the Gorn cruiser would not have cloak but would have a boost to hull and shield, just give it a weapon damage "debuff". That should handle the balance issue. Some ships should even have certain restrictions to weapon type.

They have to add new space, the Tholians, Gorn, Hydran and Lyran are all bordering Klingon space so it should fit into a cannon-ish feel. Just think of how fun it would be to Tholian Web those pesky little Feds!
Since all these ships would be without cloak it might even make for some unique PvP making the Klingon ships the Rogues on the battleground.

Hydrans and Lyrans are from the Star Fleet Universe, not what STO uses for canon.

Try Star Fleet Battles Online if you want Lyrans and Hydrans.

I dont mind these idea's. Though Id rather have open PvP sectors and decent non mind numbing PvE content (instead of kill 20 fed or romulan missions 100 times). Also add a thought provoking crafting and resource gathering systems.

Exactly right. I would like to see some elements of SFB incorporated into STO, but it doesn't appear that will be likely.

why not just conquer both and be done with it. that are jeghpu'wI after all, and will never have a seat on the High Council

Thank you for the info, to be honest I am fully aware of the fact they are not canon. I do think it can be done though. If you want to go by canon then just remove the Hydran and Lyran and have us join forces with Mirror Universe Klingons and give me Worf's giant Neg'Var. I'm still a little confused on what STO uses as canon.
Is it canon to have so many alien types? For instance the 7 foot tall Na'vi (from Avatar) Fed ship captains that run around, or perhaps the Romulans and leprechauns I see all over Qo'noS. (Haha sorry I think it's funny)

I understand that Cryptic might have an issue with rights but I'm sure CBS has some pull.

You make a great point! It just fit the old story....well maybe not them getting a seat in the council.

They can't make stuff specific to the races, due to it being OP. Tholians for one, can drain a ship in seconds, but to create the web, takes multiple ships, or anchor points. What I do wish was the case, was that each race had their own ships, weapons, etc and not what we have now. Yes, Feds would all still be Feds, but limited to phasers, p/q torps, and that's it. KDF would be Disruptors and Torps, w/ cloaks. Gorn is big ships, plas torps, and disruptors (think they used dis) , and so on. That way, there's more distinction between the races. I think it's the biggest reason for a lack of immersion. Seeing a Fed cruiser shooting distruptors or plasma, just doesn't feel right.

You do realize they outnumber KDF, and in an open setting, would just walk all over us right? We usually can't even get enough players to force there to me multiple copies of a zone, much handle this.

We all can dream and dream big about adding other races to the KDF but we need to address the issues as they are we have 1/4 of what the feds have. We need fixes Now the clearest and best way we can fix what is now a failing system is to see a open PvP sectors as suggested here action can be taken quicker and more efficiently. This will grow the KDF base giving us equal view by the developers

They will always outnumber us. And yeah they will have a huge advantage at first but you would see a large number of resubs come back and some new subs who were turned off by this joke of a PvP system. Alot of feds are also fiercley opposed to PvP so will never to rarley do it.

Although Feds are getting better Ive been on a number of matches where we would win 5v2.

Actually the Feds are not getting better, the Klingons get worse since they CAN level withe exploration.

A few might get better, since more player leave and mostly more "hardcore palyer" stay..

Yesterday I logged in with my "old" Character, the Fed Enginier-RA on Cruiser I startet STO with. I didnt play that one since i became LT.Cmdr on Klingon side, that was at least 2,5 month ago.

Well first i recognised that is had almost EVERY useless ability existing, reskilled a little and decidet to make dailys to get purple stuff for him the char.

That includes, of course pvp. So I got into that pvp KvF game, with almost no training in flying a Cruiser, crappy skills ( i didnt have enogh bo-skillpoints left to reskill ALL crapy abilitys), green and white gear... and, as i ecpectet I made EVERYTHING wrong what a person could do wrong.
I hoped for example that emergency power to weapons I would help me toget the weapons ready by dropping out of full impulse, it had no effect.
I didnt find a lot of skills like engeniering team when i needet them because I'm still used to fly that bop.
So I thought "Ohhh I screwd that game" after we... of course..... lost.

Well.... i was REALLY suprised when i saw the pvp report. I had BY FAR the most damage and kills, the TRIBLE of the highest after me. With a fracking CRUISER. Well, i died as often as the others, but not more. and there WHERE Escorts. I do not even HAVE damage skills, i go with tactical team and Targert subsystem II.

After that I tried FvF, again I had still the double damage amount of the highest after me. I didnt even try to make damage, i tried to get that extend shield to any ally, wich obviously tried everything to not get it.

Dont get me wrong, i do not want to brag. What I want to say if THATS the standard of the Fed players the Federation ships are much more Overpowered then i thought, because NO ONE of them had the SLIGHTEST IDEA how that game works.

I dindt reach that scales because i am "good" i got it because they were REALY REALY bad.

Quickly expanding the KDF races is simple enough: look to the existing Fed-side deep-space encounters.

Terran Empire, Cardassian True Way, Human Augments, Jem'Hadar remnant...

In fact, these need to be on C-Store sooner than later!

Yep, Klingons have gotten worse since the exploration clusters opened, especially at lower levels. This is a clear case of 'be careful what you wish for".

Or the Klingons are getting worse becasue alot of Feds are starting toons. Lately Ive noticed alot more Capt Kirks on our side who just continually blindly going into 4 or 5 Feds by themselves.

Lower tier PvP is pretty dead, not like it used to be for Klingons. With long waits to get in, and the lop-sided matches due to a fraked up queue system, there's no way a Klingon can level on PvP alone.

Open PvP needs to be moderated such that there is never more than a 2 to 1 advantage for either faction. That will mean a lot of Feddies wait their turn. That's fine by me because Klingons are the "PvP faction" and shouldn't have to wait.

More Klingons should be playing KvK, to avoid those long waits in queue.
