I've been playing Fed side PvE for a month and a half now and been having a good time, good enough at least to keep coming back, but lately I've been reading some Klink oriented threads and posts. They got my interest so I decided to use my Klink slot and get my lt6 character. Well, I can already see what everyone is talking about with the limited PvE content but I must say that I feel like I'm having more fun. Just a grittier faction to play on I guess. Very appealing to me.
I am also enjoying the BoP they give you. That thing handles alot nicer than the Fed ships I've used! Love the universal BOff slots too. The gas mieage is great and the stereo and sun roof rock! J/K:D Seriously though, one of the main reasons I decided to try Klingon faction is that by all accounts I will be forced to get into some PvP in order to level. I haven't joined any battles yet as I am using the PvE content to get used to the ship and some abilities I've not used before. But fear not! I will soon be trying out some PvP and doing glorious battle with my fellow Klingons! Hope to see you there and maybe join a team or something. BTW I read that there was a shortage of Sci captains on that side so I rolled one. I figured, "Hey, if I'm gonna defect at least I can maybe contribute something that is needed to my new faction.". Well, this post is too long so disengaging now.
It gets better and worse as you level up too. You will be tempted to play the cruisers, but beware, they are big targets with the buffs they gave cannons. And ive been seeing more and more feds playing escorts using cannons. I do find it comical though that they are using mostly phaser cannons from what ive been coming across at T5 though lol. Guess fedbears never learn though, so good luck in your T3 bracket, your going to need it as a BoP klink.

It's off-topic but just out of idle curiousity, why is this bad? I had read that a lot were using phaser cannons because it gives subsystem disables on crits (you get a lot more potential for crits with Rapid Fire), and that you could max Phasers out without sacrificing a load of points, which you can then invest elsewhere...
I use phasers as I'm a bit of a purist, just as I use disruptors so far as a Klingon.
It's not. Some folks get won over by the "color" of purple items at that level. But really, disruptors are still one of the most powerful weapons in the game due to their "effect."
Right behind that is phasers.
Tetryon are ok. Polaron would be even better if they were ... 1- More readily available and 2- Not so prohibiitive in terms of skill point cost.
Antiproton are pretty looking. But the Skill Point cost really cuts them down in effectiveness.
A lot of folks are running 3 to 5 points in AP. That's just not worth the RA5 skill points. Disruptors are affordable at 7-9 points and do their job effectively.
With AP and even Polaron you can get 7 to 9 points, but sacrifice being able to much of anything else at RA5. The effect you get from the beam itself isn't really worth the sacrifice you end up making in your build. You either run with weaker overall beams or a weaker overall ship.

I use Phaser weapons for almost all my characters, Fed or KDF. My justifications:
1) Access to Lv9 earlier than other weapon types, the same as Disruptors.
2) Crit is nice with a chance to disable a subsystem. If it crits and affects shielding subsystem, especially for focus firing...
3) Good phaser weaponry, like disruptors, are more readily available.
4) Phasers don't seem to generate as much "attention" in PvP compared to other weapon types. They're not big green highlights like Disruptors, big honkin' bolts of blue like Plasma, purple streaks of AP, etc. They're just subtle red-orange beams or bolts of cannon fire, and not that bright, I might add.
5) They also do a fantastic job of masking a barrage of HYT Photon fire. The red-orange beams & cannon barrage mesh well with the red stars of the Photon Torpedoes.
The classic Star Trek Phaser + Photon combination is basic, simple, and still pretty nasty. It doesn't have the zing of Quantums hitting a hull, but really, is a HYT barrage of Photons hitting a hull anything to ignore? No, and Phasers help in that combination alot in subtle ways.

So, how do you recommend I prepare for T3? Anything I should do now or make preparations for? SP allocation? Credits spent/saved? Ship choice? Anything else? (open for ALL to comment on please)
Tier 3 is when the CC really starts, IIRC. VM starts rearing its ugly head and gets higher in T4 & T5. You better have Science Team standing by, because if your BoP gets caught in VM with no counter, you're dead before you can blink your eyes and say "D**N!"
Other than that, it's business as normal every time you move up a Tier.
A late realization for me since Season 1 came out, is I guess a Raptor is actually a pretty decent choice now. The jump in cannon firepower is very potent. Cruisers can't withstand much anymore, since they can be dropped in one alpha strike. The BoP is still flimsy but flexible, Cruisers as flimsy as an Escort, and all in a the current game of DPS pwns everything, the Raptor isn't a shabby choice. Actually just noticed a few more flying about in various tiers.
Keep in mind VM's getting "tweaked" on test soon. It will be changed to only take out one subsystem at a time ... randomly. And it will be counterable by Engineering Team. Big change to that power. Really big change.

I have found the T3 bracket to be the most fun specially in a BoP. Really dislike T4 so far due to low Klink cout. Maybe it's the wrong time of day when I tried looking for a match but waiting 60 min for 1 pvp match to me is too long.

I wouldn't really mind them nerfing VM as it doesn't really seem to work most of the time due to various reasons. I have stacked many science BOs/skills on my BoP. I used to run with a different tactical / engineering set up until I found that the KDF, without any support type ships, really benefit from a ship or two with Sci skills. I didn't think I'd like it but it has turned out to be fun.
Along with the VM CC ability I hope they do a relook at all of them. Not nerfing per say but some are underpowered and others OPed. Nothing like have ALL your skills reset for 30 secs (an eternity in PvP). If you are going to have a CC in the game make certain there is an available "working" counter. If I don't wish to take the counter then thats my bad if I get hit with the ability
