First up for those who haven't played any of the appropriate missions on the fed side ... they explain in detail the differences between the TOS and the normal Klingons, and why they looked the way they did. I will not spoil it for those who haven't done the story arc yet, but it's one of the more memorable ones in this game.
That being said, I am half and half on the idea of allowing TOS looking klingons. On the one hand I don't think it could work because that story is already told.
THEN AGAIN ... I had an idea on how it could work. It could be an UNLOCK in future Klingon PVE story arc content. In fact, what it is is ... you run that fed mission from the klingon side. And have a very different outcome. Your success with that mission unlocks playable TOS looking klingons.
So it could work.
Like I said, I'm torn.
Interesting discussion though. I was going to suggest the Xindi but someone already did. I wouldn't mind the Kazon. The clothes would be outrageous if they let them wear regular Kazon uniforms and stuff.
I'd like to see some Cardassians and Ferengi be available to the Klingon empire races. To mix it up a bit.
I like the unlockable idea. It would make a real difference between the factions, and be more than a simple Fed clone mission.
It would also be a nice surprise if you translate it to rewards. Like, you have a mission where you encounter Hirogen. Depending on what you do, the mission reward is a (purple) Hirogen BO. If you destroy their ships, they are gone and you get massive XP. If you accept their surrender, you get the BO. That would make the gameplay more interesting - everyone likes choices and different possible outcomes - and it would keep so-so fitting species really rare within the faction. But that's another story for another topic I guess. ^^
I don't know if anything like this will ever happen, but I think it would be fun if a Klingon (Imperial) could captain a Federation Vessel, or if a Federation captain could fly a Negh'var or a D'deridex for instance. There is some potential for this based on some possibility for this based on the shows/movies. Perhaps even give us access to a Ferengi or Vulcan ship. Just an idea.
Speaking of Delta quadrant races I may be way out on this one but I would love to see the Vidiians involved. (all that organ stealing was crazy!)
Actually that could be a possibility, Klingon dna being immune to the phage and all, It's not beyond imagination that some Vidians might have agreed to become part of the empire on the condition they find a non klingon killing way to fix the phage.

Wow that idea gets the Darkstahr seal of approval.
One thing related to this... I'd like to see the sense on the Klingon side, that non-Klingons are inferior in station to Klingons, even if they're part of the KDF. Even if the Klingons are working with others, these others would need to seriously take in the klingon culture and make it their own or get thrown out on their butts by the Klingons for them to be fully accepted, I think. I just think some of that Klingon nature should come through from time to time.

I''v stated this in another thread. But I really think the issue is two-fold. One, people are rolling Aliens or other races in order to stack up good space traits. If you roll a Klingon you get two fairly ok ground Traits. But the need for and use of ground traits in the game is pretty negligible. Space combat is where the action is in this game and its much more efficient to Roll an Alien and stack up 4 useful space traits.
Also, many people find Klingon's "Ugly" and they want to roll up their fantasy girl to play with. Hence all the Orion slave girls and sexy girl aliens Klingon side.
Personally, I think KDF ships, should get special bonuses when piloted by a Klingon (or liberated borg Klingon). Maybe a bonus to elusivity or weapons power. Nothing insanely overpowered but something that would make it beneficial to be Klingon.... right now you're kinda gimping yourself if you roll a Klingon Captain.
When I rolled my KDF-toon I first thought about making a Klingon...and spent hours trying to make one that was satisfactory.
And I am not saying I wanted to make one that looked like an anime-Klingon or something.:p
However in the end I was so unhappy with the available choices that I simply made an alien.
Of ocurse one of the issues with non Klingons in the KDF has been adressed in several licensed matrials, like SFB and the FASA RPG where a "kuve" was only allowed to serve in the lower ranks...and always under supervision.
In SFB there were a lot of security stations on their Klingonships to prevent any possibility of mutiny, they had such a problem when they first allowed others to serve on their ships and would never allow such a thing from occuring again.
However I would assume that those who have proven themselves worthy enough to go to the Klingon equivalent of command school, or the one shown in "Klingon Academy", and not only survive the racism faced there but pass that school would be accepted as a brothers-in-arms.
And that is what I consider my non-Klingon KDF to be: one that had to prove more than the average Klingon and succeded.:)
Remember though it was a Klingon Engineer who discovered how to defeat the energy dampening weapon of the Breen. Without it the Breen are on an equal footing with the Empire now. The empire never revealed the secret to it's allies either.
Actually the Klingon engineer came upon this by accident when making a adjustment to his ships warp core that was having containment problems.
Because the feds and Romulans use vastly different tech to the klingons they could not make the same adjustment to their ships and a different counter had to be found. http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Energy_dissipator
The "I want a pretty/sexy toon" isn't limited to Orion and alien girls, it's not even limited to STO. It happens in every game, everywhere. The funny thing is that, according to surveys, Klingons are voted as the species with the most attractive males, Vulcans the species with the most attractive females. (I guess the latter is the doing of T'Pol alone, lol) Maybe I just have a weird taste, but I think some of the most attractive females in Star Trek were Klingons (Grilka, B'Ellana) and that's why I don't really get all the supposed-to-be-sexy aliens.
I don't think any of the species suggested in this topic would change the numbers of other species females. Breen would very likely end up like Gorn, Letheans and Nausicaans - without a female option. And they appear to be the 'most wanted' playable non-Fed species so far. I have a feeling the real solution to get more people to play Klingons is... better clothing options for females. A dress or corset like the Duras sisters usually wear - the "hello, may I introduce my cleavage" dress. Be sure that option and the excessive use of the TRIBBLE slider increases the Klingon population about 50 %.
I'd like it to be the race that eats all the other lesser races on the bridges of our Klingon ships. It should have a natural adversion to eating those not on the bridge.
So the next time I beam down to Qo'noS, the only non-Klingon characters I'll see are the ones carrying our luggage and war-wares.

Wait, are you saying these green ladies are NOT Klingons? I thought they were the dominant species, as they are everywhere.

Blah way off topic...but I couldn't resist.

Other than it being the wrong franchise, mandalorians are not a race, they're a culture. ^^
I'd quite like to see Tholians, Kzinti and maybe Talarians as they're a warrior culture also

Dadgumit Klingon up Captains!
