Leveling via PvP

Ok, so I'm sure this may have been answered before, but I don't feel like searching for something that might just be close, but not quite what I'm asking.

I've leveling a char already on the Fed side to 45. So, now I've got back to playing around with my Lethean. Now, unless someone can prove to me that I'm not delusional... leveling via PvP is TRIBBLE! I have been getting about 90 skill points per match and much of the time it does take a little bit to get into a match. I have been told that the PvP grants more skill points than turning in a mission would (all Kling side) like doing Kahless Expanse. If I'm not mistaken... I'm not earning quite as much as I should be for the amount of time and effort going in to this. Not to mention the PvP missions aren't scaling right. I'm LC5 at the moment and the highest level mission I have is LC1, that being K.E.

So, can math explain this? Are things even or am I just noticing something which has already been complained about?

If you are fed side, level with pve missions. The only reason that klingons level with pvp by preference is because their mission reward are artificially lowered by virtue of them being given at the start of each rank tier. What is the best option for klingons is still poor in comparison to anything the feds get.

That's what I figured. I spent twice as much time on my Klingon to get half as much as what my Fed char gets. It's quite discouraging.

    Welcome to Federation Online!

To be a Klingon is to play until you're crippled by reptitive motion injuries and your eyes bleed.

You will EARN every point of experience you begrudgenly get. You will have learned your PvP skills. You will know your PvP keyboard in the dark. And you will be accused of cheating because of these. Then you will be nerfed . . . again.

Klingons are like the folks on the lower decks of the Titanic, the stearage passengers. When they assign seats on the lifeboats we won't get any. Or in our case, when the airlock opens we're the ones without a space suit!

We will get a few scraps off the Federation table, nothing more. Some occasional Federation content, retreaded for our use, so long as it doesn't take any significant effort to retread.

It's far better to roll a Federation Klingon character and player a tame Klingon, a good Klingon, a safe Klingon. Soon you will be able to "simulate" killing your Federation friends, the ones you secretly hate for making you an unKlingon.

not to mention that pvp in t1 is now so slow even for klingons (i have just rolled a new one to try and get the officers with the bo skills i want) it is even more painful than i remember the first time

Apparently the devs reduced the XP reward you get from scenarios -- at least for Klingons. Not sure if it's true for Feds.

I hit level 40 right when this happened so I'm not sure what the deduction was and I never heard why they did it or saw anything in the patch notes, but there was an uprising about it in the PvP forums at the time. So that's probably why it seems so slow now.

Leveling a KDF is a slow grind. Too slow. If you agree please post here and we can try to get the devs to look at it. Also bug report it. This is how they prioritize stuff.

Yeah, I agree that the xp is way to limited in comparison to the Fed side. This grind is slower than the star wars galaxies crafting grind, and that was super slow.

Yeah, it's slow. Stopped playing my Klingon until "Klingons are fixed". They have until I finish the Fed storyline or the end of March, whichever happens first.

I was really hoping this would be a game I'd love to play for a couple of years instead of 2 months.

I know people who have played a single Cryptic game for years. but in those other games, you had enough character slots that it was viable to continually try out new builds (or even just new looks) as you tired of the old ones.

only 3 character slots is very puzzling in a game with so many character customization options, a skillpoint cap, and no ability to respec (yes, I know they're adding respecs, but this only makes the situation slightly less puzzling).

I agree, Klinks need a more fair way to level. The only thing that keeps me going is that the KDF are like pirates!

Please tell me this isn't so! I have 2 45's and the KDF was to be put on hiatus until the faction was developed. I was going to try MANY different race/class/ship combination's FED side....

    If this IS correct:

    1. Buy CE for Liberated Borg
    2. Purchase Klingon FED
    3. Purchase Ferengi FED
    4. NO MORE CHOICES TO EXPLORE FOR YOU!

OBTW: 5. NO ROMULAN FOR YOU!

I'm sure that when a new faction gets added, they'll give everyone another character slot.

Other than that, I think you can expect to see "Add Character Slot" show up in the C-Store for $. That's the biggest reason I can think of why they went from their usual offering of 8 character slots down to 3.

What I hope, and I hope a Dev sees this, is more than just PvE added. I would like it if things were scaled better. I know it's as low as it is to prevent those who PvP a lot to abuse it, but those who don't PvP for several hours at a time consistently, it's way too much of a grind. I'd be cool (and I'd be fine if this was done) if we had missions to go along with the PvP we were doing that were AT OUR LEVEL to help the monotonus grind seem more worth it. Or just bump up the skill points a bit more.

Also, I hate getting into a group where it's 5v1... that should be looked at too. If there are a few groups forming, consolidating them before they start or if people bail, deeming the people with the highest points as winners and giving a slightly reduced reward seems fair.

I was pleased to see that, just before I accepted the Kahless Expanse mission on Tribble, that the skill reward was 300 skill points. A great improvement. I thank you Cryptic.

Now I'm starting to question if making a Klingon character was wise.

I recommend doing ground PVP at lower tiers. Specifically, try playing on the ghost ship map because it's the smallest (faster to encounter with your enemies). Matches are very fast and it's an efficient grind for exp.

i did missions until i hit LC, then i bumped into a pvp sector and just did a few matches. having seen both ways to level, pvp is by far the fastest way to level.

you get 2k credits for a win or loss, 70-130 skill points, badges for gear (which you can choose, and not rely on random drops) and officer merits. All that for 5-15mins of play time. I say 5 mins, caues i've loaded into a few 'close to finished' matches where i could barely get into combat before the game was over.

after avg'ing 1-2 levels a night over a couple hours, i was now doing 1-2 levels an hour.

this is all based on what i've personally seen, but it may vary for others.

Waiting 20 minutes for a Match on LC. 5 Klingons vs. 1 Fed. The Fed left after getting killed the first time. Cryptic stolen another 25 minutes of my life. Level a Klingon is a pain in the... you know.

you can't really blame the fed for leaving if you piled on him 3v1, 4v1 or 5v1. especially if you kept him stunned while killing him.

sometimes when things are slow, the fastest way to complete a match is to take turns going up against him 1v1. when opponents are scarce, you have to be careful to make sure that each match is an experience your opponent will want to repeat, if you want him to queue again.

Yes we can blame them. They qued for pvp they should show up to fight or stay home. I fight alone against multiple Feds all of the time. If I can leave a match of 5 vs me with even one kill I call it a victory.

ok, I stand corrected. you can blame them all you like. but you can't force them to come back if they left because they weren't having fun.

in a capture and hold map, it doesn't matter if they leave or refuse to respawn -- you'll win the map anyway. but in a deathmatch map, they can prevent you from winning by leaving. the only way to win is to kill them, and you can't kill them if they won't queue or won't stay in the map.

blame them all you want, but *you* will be the one paying the penalty if they leave, because you will be the one stuck in a map you can't finish without them.

    PvP leveling?

You mean there is another way? Oh thats right, there is another faction in this game......jk.

To be honest, being completely bored (and finished my KDF daily) I jump over to my Federation character to see how the "other side lives." After experiencing Memory Alpha and "crafting" I wonder if many Klingon's don't realize what a better deal we have ;)

LOL I needed aspirin after Memory Alpha. I'll take Qonos convoluted hallways any day.
