With the promis of a lot of big changes, improvements and new content over the next month, I will keep it going for another month and see what happens. But unless they do something to make the Klingon faction really engaging by the end of the month, and really give us some quality gameplay, I highly doubt I will stick around come April.
This fabled 45 Day Update better be the equivalent for the 2nd Coming, mostly for the KDF since this faction essentially has nothing. I like to PvP, but D*MN... there is only so much pure PvP I can take, especially on the same handful of maps with no variation whatsoever.
Right now its fun for me and.. when it stops being fun I will be gone
I enjoy the story line on the fed side and even the memory alpha stuff and I enjoy the PVP (admitedly at the moment more on the klingon because routinely loosing gets old fast.. but I keep at it and sometimes I find very good teams to play with ^^).
Its not an insane grindy game its fast to level up and I can butt heads with klinks of feds all I want without spending a year gearing up to get there. This part I like and eventually I am hoping others will as well.
So for now I am staying. I was going to leave but having recently found a fun guild I decided to stay.
Good PvP matches are enjoyable. Such a shame that only the top 10% of Starfleet players know what they're doing.
^ This.
I still enjoy PvP and we revitalized our enjoyment of ground PvP by using nothing but melee.
Today we had a 40-0 game with 4 of us versus 5 Feds. Our only weapons were bat'leths and fists. So we still totally crushed them but it was a lot more fun doing it (smashing them flat over and over with guns isn't much fun).
Test server looks like it might have some interesting changes and some new content so we'll see how that goes.
I predicted this game would be a 2-monther (for me) but it's conceivable it could be a 3-monther.
Really, I enjoy the PvP mechanics, it just needs more content.
And dear Kahless, it needs the Feds to stop sucking. I know there must be good Fed groups out there but I never see them. We have seriously not lost a ground battle in over 3 weeks and we play numerous matches every night.
Uncapping skill points is going to entertain you for all of about 1 week.
Then you'll be maxed again, except now it's worse because your character has exactly the same skills as everyone else.
I don't buy the "capped skill points made me quit" argument. Doesn't make any sense. It just made you quit a week or two earlier than you otherwise would have.

Not if you no longer award Skill Point bonuses from missions and only from ship kills at BG10 And RA 10...
Grindy? You bet.
And as coming updates illustrate they are not incapable of adding more skills to the game over time.
I renewed because ground pvp is still fun. although I did lower my subscription from 3-month to 1-month, because I don't expect it to stay fun for very long.
Lifetime. Also, BoP is my favorite ship ever (of course they had to use my favorite model on the T1 ship). I also have a lot of fun having my Orion captain dance behind forcefields in front of feds on ground maps or blow kisses and confuse them (seduce). I don't know exactly why but ground PVP is fun, so that alone is enough if they'd at least get the queues to remove you from others when you join a match.
I leveled in Open Beta a fed engineering cruiser to Lt.Cmdr 8 and then tried a Bird of Prey and never returned to my cruiser
The BoP makes so much more fun.
Now I am Cmdr 9 and as a casual player I level very slow.
I log in and in a typicall session of 30-60 min I play 1-2 engagement missions against romulan npcs (mostly for the loot) mixed with 3-4 pvp matches (for the fun) and I like it very much.
Instant action, no long travels to quest locations, no boring readings of quest texts.
Seriously, i'm not taking a sarcastic approach to this.
I seriously want to know, what is it about the Klingon faction that has persuaded you to renew your sub?
Well, essentially after the Klingon fiasco said they wouldnt listen to suggestions for the Klingons unless we paid and if "we" wanted it...so basically they held the Klingon faction up for ransom...and I guess we are paying it(meh, they gave us proof of life).
truth well i plan on playing this as a quit come back quit come back deal i dont really want to wait for the upgrades besides bad company 2 is all consuming right now i will see the 45 day update and then decide
I am hoping that this game doesn't go the way of AoC or LOTRO. AoC was dead like in 1.5 months after release. Lotro took a little longer, but was dead like in 3 months. I have no idea if it's going to happen, but I hope the Cardassians or Romulans become playable at one time or another. So far the grind on the Klingon side is getting rather boring. I might just go back to the SWG pre cu emulator and wait things out.

Yeah, there's been a really disappointing slew of MMORPGs lately. I played LOTRO in beta and that was enough for me. I never bought the game. Played AOC, we got a guild city and all that but just plain ran out of interesting stuff to do and quit.
I can't really complain about POTBS since that game entertained us for a while and had some solid PvP mechanics but in the end it also just didn't have enough interesting stuff to do. Sounds like Global Agenda took a quick dive. Warhammer lasted a bit but I never even made it to max level before just getting tired of the PvE grind and the canned PvP. I hear they kill the Kings all the time now. Meh. Aion....I actually have some good stuff to say about that game but in the end is was kind of like WAR -- too much PvE grinding for levels and not enough interesting PvP. I'm still watching for the Aion expansion though, which looked like it might actually be good (buildings that you can build and destroy?!)
Champions lasted me exactly 1 month. Again it was the plain-jane PvE combined with overly basic, canned PvP that turned me off.
I have tried to like EVE a couple times and just can't get into it. The PvP tends to annoy me (gatecamps, surprise cynos, people seeing you in local chat, people seeing my probes before I can lock onto them, the fact that you have to spend 6+ months skilling up and playing some of the most hideously dull PvE in order to get the skill points and money required for PvP...) and the PvE is way worse than STO's. Some interesting stuff there but it's just too much TRIBBLE standing in the way between me and fun.
I'd actually consider going back to WOW but I reaaaally don't want to have to spend more time leveling up, gearing up and all that. So tired of the "gear grind". I want a substantial PvP wargame, not a canned gear grind.
World War II Online is actually a great wargame. I'm waiting for them to release their new graphics engine and I may go play that some more. Still, it's a simulator, not an action game by any measure, so I find it hard to really get into it.
Basically I'm playing STO because I already played everything else and got bored with it. I don't really have a lot of faith that the STO development team is going to be able to deliver a pace of content that's going to keep me interested (they started too far behind on this) but I'll hang out until I get bored of PvP or until something better comes out.
Just like AOC, WAR, etc, I see some good, fun game mechanics and a good, enjoyable game engine, but shallow content and canned gameplay ends up boring me out of it sooner or later.
Sat in zone last night for about an hour trying to get a Infected group. No go there, played a couple PVP games trying to knock out my daily. That went a bit faster, and that pretty much took care of my night as I hate grinding Borg.
I think Infected was a good step in the right direction but unless something makes players flock over to klings we just do not have a large enough player base.
Sad as I really did enjoy the game but I dont see them making enough changes to make people keep playing.
We need content and lots of it quickly. My worry is that the content they are going to add is going to be T1 to T4 and no real upper end content. Most of us that suffered the pain of getting to BG5 are not going to be willing to start over again just to get something new to do as a kling.

I would love to group with you, but I have been stuck at LC for a month.
Seriously, i'm not taking a sarcastic approach to this.
I seriously want to know, what is it about the Klingon faction that has persuaded you to renew your sub?
Is it the PvP? the PvE? Simply the aesthetic of Klingon culture? the 45-day patch? or will you just be re-rolling as a Fed?
And i'd like to hear from each and every one of you!
I am waiting for the 45 day patch.
I also want to experience the tier 5 battles. I'm nearly level 3, and I don't want to re-start my FED character.
I like being the underdog, IN THE SENSE that Klingons are out numbered 5 to 1 generally.
But once Im at tier 5, and if the 45 day patch doesnt do much for the game, im not subscribing for a 3rd month. So ill be here for first free and 1 paid. That seems like it will be it.
And dear Kahless, it needs the Feds to stop sucking. I know there must be good Fed groups out there but I never see them. We have seriously not lost a ground battle in over 3 weeks and we play numerous matches every night.
Ironically a lot of those good fed groups are mainly Klingons who rerolled fed to relive the boredom.
I think Infected was a good step in the right direction but unless something makes players flock over to klings we just do not have a large enough player base.
It's kind of funny, in a way.
The Klingons who are T5 now are, I strongly suspect, the players who liked PvP enough to keep doing it and eventually made max level that way.
So then you reward these hardcore PvPers with......a big fancy PvE mission?
I mean, we went and did the mission. Spent a couple days playing with it part-time. Might even go back some day. But it's PvE content and we are PvP players, so it just doesn't hold our interest. Cryptic made a team that basically filters out anyone who doesn't love PvP, so in the end there should be no mystery over why it's so hard to find a group for a PvE mission.
I'm glad they're taking the time to convert these Fed end-game missions into something Klingons can do (and I doubt that this conversion takes much effort) but it's why I hope they keep their focus on giving us more and better PvP content. Clearly any Klingon today that makes level 45 must have a deep love of STO's PvP mechanics. What they're going to want is more PvP.
I have a Klingon character and find it very enjoyable. I like some PvP but I'd like a lot more PvE added. I hope the 45 day patch and future updates bring a lot of PvE to Klingons. The BoP is highly maneuverable and agile and fun to captain.
I'm still playing, I tried to reroll a fed but I'm addicted to the PvP (which I never was in any other MMO). I guees I found my niche on the Klingon side. The patch is not going to solve everything and as soon as it comes out, the same people will probably find stuff about that to complain about.
I play because I like it, I don't play as much as I did, but I still come back and kill feds just for fun.
TZhere is nothing better than coming into a PvP to find 1 or 2 feds camping our spawn, taking one down (most of the time) and trying to put the hurt to another until more of us show up and break their backbones and send them limping off into the vastness of space.
Well Im going to keep playing because my main Klingon isnt BG yet, still a Captain. Then Ive got 2 more slots for an Eng and Sci klingon just to see what I like more. Those right there will be 2 months of playing Im sure. Then Ive yet to try ground PvP, so I'll have to delete someone and make a ground only guy. That'll be another month of playing Im sure. So at least I'll be around for 3 months. Then when all of that is done, Im sure I will go play a fed.
Plus Ive learned more about how to play the game in 1 week as a Klingon then I did getting to Captain as a fed. So I owe it to someone to keep playing.
PVE has never entertained me in the end. EQ ruined it for me forever. And sure there's no point to PVP in the end, but I like pick-up matches. If it became as involved as the 0.0 game in EvE, I'd walk away from STO.
thanks for all the great replies, good to see there's still some optimism and people still just love playing Klingons.
i see there's been a lot of referrence to the '45-day patch'.
if you didn't already know, it's been verified the 45-day patch IS the same as 'Update 1'
and that's what they're currently testing on Tribble. the link below lists exactly what this entails, at this point in time http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...d.php?t=134008
I played Klingon in open beta, but decided to play fed for a while in release until they got some Klingon content in. Thing was that I enjoyed the PvP more than the PvE and ended up leveling my fed mostly from that.
Eventually I couldn't wait any longer and ended up going back to Klingons and so I am there now. So to answer you question, I enjoy the PvP in the game (both ground and space) and prefer the Klingon side of things. I like the pace of leveling without as much loot TRIBBLE found in other games.
As others have mentioned, I see some really good qualities in the game even though it needs much more content (more pvp maps for instance!).
Aion was too much PvE are too little PvP. WAR was typical Mythic bad balancing, and overly tedious RvR. I only played WoW up to around level 40 after it first released and never touched it again, so STO is really my only interest atm.

Working over on Tribble and a bit closer with the devs I think the game will come around.

At least until the following conditions are met:
1) Joined Trill KDF faction as promised in the box I bought. This gets them the month it will take to max out one toon.
2) Uncapping skill points. This earns them a lifetime sub from me and many others.
Then you'll be maxed again, except now it's worse because your character has exactly the same skills as everyone else.

It makes more sence in the game context to be a klingon.
Ground PVP is fun.

I've maxed out my Kling character, now going back and playing the Fed more to level him up.
I look forward to leveling up a Rommie someday.
So, I bought the Lifetime Sub.
