power consumption

Wouldn't the warp core's power output be enough to substain full phaser fire?

Even most Star Trek games had auto fire or could fire all phasers by just holding down a button and not having to press it all over again.

Make your own autofire macro and/or download one of the existing ones then post on one of the hundreds of autofire QQ threads. beams use more power as a balancing issue with escort vs cruiser. I'm cool with the power consumption.

Making a macro is easy and i would have done this allready but i wann wait a little bit longer to see how it goes.

My posting wasn't really because of the missing full auto fire but more of a simple question regarding canon.
Just a pure technical question :D

Something like...would full auto fire be in line with canon?

Canon never showed 4 fore and aft weapons firing constantly, no. I occassionally saw the defiant simultaniously fire maybe three weapons. Occassionally a battleship would have three or four beam arrays going to dispatch fighters. In Star Trek XI every weapon was firing and even initiating point defense, and I think that movie had the more realistic strategy.

Short answer is the same as when Babylon Five developers were asked about the exact speed of their ships: They have an effective output of "plot." If plot dictates we arrive just in the nick of time, that's how fast we go. Same goes for balance here and in the show. If plot dictates the Defiant can blair forward weapons and blow up a battleship in two salvos then that's how many guns it can fire.

Now to balance with STO just replace the word "plot" with "balance."

Good point. I even tried to find some "canon" numbers regarding power consumption of ship systems and warp core power output...but...there's allways some numbers missing...So in the end it's a bit of freedom here regarding if you actually could or couldn't fire all weapons constantly

You never really saw more than say two phaser beams fired simultaneously on TNG / DS9 or Voyager

That's the Strip / Array Phasers.

There were the odd exceptions but never at the same time, So I kinda like the power drain feature to be honest otherwise I'd fly a cruiser all the time and just broadside with 110 power to Phasers.
