Does it untimately matter what ship?

Hi all, can someone put me right about this please?

If you can buy every ship in each tier then doesn't that take the fun and risk element out of choosing your ship? Why take time and care of determining your ship class if you know you can just buy a different one?

Won't Admirals just end up owning every ship at every tier? Where then is the motivation to draw together a variation of ballenced skills sets for Raid, pvp and endgame content if anyone can be everything?

Surely you should have to stick with the ship you choose for each tier (changing class when you change tier if you wish) and then possibley pay a huge amount of credits to duel spec once at each tier? In WoW for example (and god knows I know this isn't WoW and wouldn't compare the two games in their entireity) you can't be a Warlock, A Paladin, A Dwarf, A Hunter, A Knight ect all on the same toon because what would be the fun in that?

I hope my understanding is incorrect and would welcome someone correcting me please?

Thank you.

Well there's a limited number of skill points. If you really want to be the best you can be in space combat, you have to put points into either science ships, escorts, or cruisers. There aren't enough points available to allow you to excel in every ship. For instance, I'm taking the Science route. Once I hit admiral, I could buy one of every ship, but my escort would be weaker then someone who puts points into the escort tree, there by weakening my motivation to use it and promoting me to stick with the type of ship I put points in.
