putting out the green fires from photon grenades

During the earlier missions, I thought the ground combat was terrible, but perhaps I am getting a little better at it.

I obtained a tool or ability to put out fires, a sort of handheld fire extinguisher. Last night, the Klingons started using what I think is a photon grenade that sets people on fire and the fire burns green. A Klingon set himself on fire and then started running around setting enemies on fire by approaching them, just like a Klingon would do.

He set one of my bridge officers on fire and she ran around and I could not catch her to put the fire out. Another officer was unconscious, so I was able to put the fire out, but it took a long time to put out.
I caught fire once and I was unconscious and my bridge officers could not put the fire out and one of them caught fire trying to treat me. I had to click "respawn".

Is there a means of putting these fires out or not getting ignited? There is a "fire suppression" kit and I have one, but it is for suppressing weapons fire, not fires.

the fire extinguisher only works on the fires during that mission (or so I've found)

but I wasn't aware the plasma fire could spread from person to person, thought you had to go into the pool of fire the plasma grenade caused to get hit by it. And no, there doesn't seem to be a way to put it out beyond possibly some of the medical science skills.

Those were PLASMA grenades, not Photons.

And the Fire Extinguisher only works agaisnt normal fire.
Plasma Fire is unaffected by it.

So, basically: No, you cannot put Plasma Fires out (not the one on the ground, a burning character can be healed by one of the engineering or science skills). Just wait for them to go away (they do after less then 30 seconds).

And they usually do so little damage (usuall less than 10 per second) that your science Officers should easily be able to heal the damage faster than it comes in.

That explains the color and also that it is difficult to put out, that it is a plasma fire. I thought I had seen a Klingon say "out with the photon grenade" just before the fire started, but perhaps he did say "plasma".

Thanks, so I was not the one putting the fires out, they were just burning themselves out.

My officer got too close to a burning Klingon and she caught fire. It seemed as though he was running around trying to spread the fire to enemies. One of my officers then got too close in trying to treat the burning officer and they caught fire too. It was kind of funny, since it is a game. It was like the Simpsons were in Star Trek.

The extinguisher seems to work in other missions and I don't think it is one of the extinguishers that was located on a wall in a warehouse where there were fires. This is something I got as a reward during one of the missions, if I recall correctly. It is a device. If I get another, I will give it to one of my officers.

I also noticed that the officers that I promoted have two skills now, but the newest one only has one and I was not able to give them a second.
