Yeah, I loaded up the launcher to update Vanguard and noticed that SWG was activated.
I logged in, noticed there was a new "Chronicler" profession and investigated that a little bit. This profession is available to all players and can be practiced alongside your main profession (sort of like being a pilot.) It lets you write quests, stored on holocrons, that you can give/sell to other players. Initially, you have a limited number of tasks that you can write into your quests, but by grinding mobs, you can acquire more Chronicle Fragments (or whatever they're called) and they give you more tasks to write in.
I messed around with it for a couple of hours, but doubt I'll be spending any more time with it. I've been out so long, dunno if it's possible to get back in. Maybe if I had a buddy to play with.

Another way for SOE to sit on its TRIBBLE and not do anything to the game and let the player base do it for them
yeah thats about the time I stopped playing they had fan faire in Vegas and they had a "huge" announcement that players would love. Needless to say when they unveiled the Chronicle Master system folks were not happy, but I doubt surprised either given SOE's track record with botching what was once a really fun game
You know though, ill give "some" and btw I'm stretching the some word here, they sure know how to rake in major profits from that card game. People trying to get all the little goodies for there little huts in the jungle. I almost laffed my butt off when I checked it last night and they added a new card deck and they have this new mount thats like a transformer ROFL...wow content has really gone down hill over in the SOE department, but that hasnt changed since i left so no shocker there :P
Ill never touch any SOE Product ever....ever......ever........ever......ever........ever...ever....*eats a chip*.....ever.....ever.......ever.......ever......ever.....ever...*yawns*....ever......ever....ever...ever...ever.....ever....AGAIN.
I have the same motto. I was involved in a Beta for a game called Pirates of the Burning Sea. That is one wild and wonderful MMO. The second it went hot as an SOE product I dropped out and never looked back because it's an SOE product now. I wonder how many other potential customers SOE has lost owing to the way they treated their orginal SWG customers?

SOE stands for Stupid Omnipotent Executives and it lives up to the name. Stuffed shirts making decisions without consulting marketing or the fan base/subscribers to see if it will be well received. End result, a hand full celebrating the 6th anniversary of the game and vader/Leia visits passing without one toon to award the title to. They messed up so bad every MMO that comes after will look at SWG as an example of what not to do and the PR releases start off by saying "This is not a sequel to SWG"
LOL...that happened to me a few times....It was like Weekend at Bernie's....Hold the Boat!
I was a TK/Ranger....Loved the top tier Ranger camp...It was like a small city....I remember grinding camp XP and just sitting there and having random people pop in and chat for awhile.....Ah the good old days. Gone, but not forgotten.
I remember pitching my big tent outside Coro, on the other side of a hill where that cyborg armed fella you had to kill was waiting after one of them go a visit from 'the old man' after his FS grind. We were waiting for my guildies to show up , proper staging post with bacta tanks and everything.
I did feel like a we where in a forward OP in a battle.
I logged on during the free month thingy, and gave away all my possessions to the few guildies remaining in that 6 year old tombstone of a game.
All I really miss is my rebel gunship with the marijuana vaporizers in...
Yeah I went back for the free month to see what was what. Dead...is all i found lol. The real and only thing I miss from that game was the years spent forming friendships. But those friendships never died out. The friends I made I consider them my 2nd family. That is what I miss most. Looking back at those years playing were fun times...but it was the company not the game :P
I got the email - I haven't decided whether or not to go and have a look to see what things are like now. I too left in disgust after the CU. I came back, for another freebie, after the NGE and found it was even worse.
Ditto on the "would go back forever" if they reverted to the original game.
SWG did two things welll most MMOs i can think of hasnt topped...housing and social...
well, housing design and deocration....The whole covering the planet with structures got way out of hand until they finally allowed us to demolish vacant houses.
SWG was awesome for me until NGE and i stayed and tried to tolerate NGE, but left not because of NGE but because guilds were closing down and too many people were leaving.
Im still very bitter against SOE and thier quest to make more money and appeasing the loud minority of ranters.....which eventually lead to making things "easier" for them ,a nd making Jedi "playable" at the start.
I really hope Cryptic does not fall int eh same trap.

I miss my house...and my friends.:(
I deleted the email, because when I have logged in with a free month thing, i always get bummed out at all the devastation that were once beautiful vibrant cities full of people.

I agree with all what you said.
Its sad that a game that once was thriving with mass populations and had a great community pre NGE died out. Due to SOE's monopoly to collect as much money as possible but not pleasing its fan base other then "no affence here" the lower end age groups for easier content that was much easier to obtain.
I hope to see Cryptic not follow in those foot steps and make STO what galaxies failed to accomplish.
Same here, they are advancing at a good pace too, they got swoops in game now. As soon as that goes live, I'm going to be crafting some cool things!
Edit: and Creature Handler
*twitches* I...I could have my crafting joy back? No...must be strong...no more spending hours on end assembling just the right set of resources, then components, then putting together awesome weapons...and putting them on the AH at low prices to tick off the other crafters... XD
Yeah, I NEVER put things up for inflated prices. I was almost pure crafting..only had the basic pistoleer skill so I could defend myself with my pre-nerf Republic Blaster I made...you know, the one that didn't have any level requirements on it. *chuckles* Since I supplied all my own resources, pieces, factories, etc., it didn't really cost me anything but maintenance to craft stuff...so why should I charge through the nose?
Now, if STO could have a crafting system that was that much fun...*sighs*
But I digress. Yup, I got one of those emails as well, but since my house and thusly all my resource caches and other equipment would now be gone after they started wiping those...not much point of even coming back just to look around.
Besides, I've got Klingons to blast into subatomic particles! XD
