Does anyone else find it really difficult to control the ship? There's either the really slow impluse power speed that takes forever to get within range to fire, or the really fast warp that makes you pass everything. When I need to turn around it makes a huge broad turn and I can't seem to ever find anything. It took me about 30 minutes to beam up the survivors of the Borg attack because I couldn't find the darn ships. I kept either shooting past them, or not able to find them at all. The only way I could was to follow the cluster of other players who were hovering around the damaged ships. Anyone else have this problem?
I think part of the problem that may make turns seem to take longer is the tendency for the keyboard turning commands to get swapped if the camera is facing rearward and you're also using the mouse for steering by holding both buttons.
Doing the above causes the ship to turn the exact opposite way that you're trying (with both mouse and keyboard at the same time) to go.
Once you finally train your fingers to not try to do both at the same time (I still haven't managed to get mine to stop) then you can tighten your turn radius by some of the following:
Toggling off Full Impulse as you approach your target
Firing on your target, which toggles Full Impulse off automatically
Throttling down to about quarter speed long enough to make the turn, then back up to speed
Using the Evasive Maneuvers skill to get a quick boost of turning rate and speed. Throttle down to keep from overshooting due to the speed boost.
There are undoubtedly other ways, like upping your space skills, to improve your turning rate, but the above are the ones I actually know and use frequently.
