Exchange has lots of usability problems right now but it would be drastically more useful if there was a sort by cost. What is making the Exchange problematic right now is that it appears that everything is absurdly over-priced. However, this isn't the case, its just that the first few pages are showing a lot of overpriced stuff. There is reasonably priced stuff on the AH but no one can find it because they can't sort to find the deals.
Of all the changes that need to be made to make the Exchange more usable, sort by price should probably be the first.
I would like to see sorting by price, rank, mark, rarity, and post date. Also I would like to see the cap of 20 auctions removed. Having such a sub par exchange is hurting game play a bit. There also seems to be some sort of issue when buying something off the last page of a given search, it kicks you to a blank page and list some crazy negitive number on the bottom for the search results.
The exchange needs a complete overhaul.... hope they do this somewhere soon after the launch.
At the moment it can be described as crude or rudimentaty at best.
I posted about this earlier in the headstart and got no responses!
Yeah, it's terrible. A "sort by price" would be a fundamental aspect, dontcha think? there are plenty of other issues as well; the category buttons for ship console don't return results, but if you look in commodities there are tons of them!
Yeah. Exchange (and all the sellers, really) Needs a complete overhaul.
I should be able to sort and reverse-sortby various criteria such as:
Selling Price
Purchase Price
Rank Required
Damage
Damage Per Second
Damage Type
Grouped by Item Type (Ground versus Space, Weapons/Shields/Deflectors/etc...)
I should be able to filter on any or all of the above so I don't have to scroll through items that are too far above my level, too far below, too expensive, or too weak to consider purchasing.
So when I type "Phaser" it begins to display all items that start with the word "Phaser" and I can select the one I want.
Whatever they do to the Exchange here needs to be also done in Champions Online, it's the same system and it was one of the reasons I don't play Champions Online.
Also as far as I can tell the Exchange needs some serious QA time. I think several of the existing filters are broken. If I select a subcategory and then type Phaser it displays nothing. If I deselect the filter and type in phaser it shows me all phasers even ones in the category that I had selected earlier which turned up no results.

Sorting by price is a good start, the above suggestions would be even better. Or maybe even allow me to bring up the exchange in space and "replicate" the item to my inventory.

Oh no! This is really upsetting to hear. If Champions is still like this then it is doubtful we'll see any fixes or changes in STO. I'm hoping they have more commitment to STO - there are a lot of community aspects that are really underdone - the ability to have a thriving player to player exchange would help a lot in making this game feel like more than just a string of instance fights.

A lot of good ideas here. Many of which should be easy enough to apply.

Agreed! That would begin to destroy the insanity.
