Here is the cornerstone of my playlist to listen to whilst destroying Klingons in-game:

Get music from Star Trek movies 1-11 as well as the Picard song. Seriously, while ALL the Trek scores are good, The Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan are particularly good with STO, while Star Trek IV... is not so much lol

any Star Trek Soundtrack will do, but ESPECIALLY...

Wrath of Kahn Soundtrack is amazing
Search for Spock Likewise

Aliens soundtrack (which is actualy Star Trek 4's original) also very nice

other good ones I enjoy... keep in mind this is all 'mood inspiring' and not 'rock n roll' stuff which im sure others can tell ya more about.

soundtrack from Perfect Storm (which is done by the guy who did all three trek's above)
soundtrack to Last of the Mohicans (i cannot stress enough how great that soundtrack is)
soundtrack to Bubba Hotep

You can find most of the Trek scores on iTunes. They also have 3 albums for Next Gen, 1 for DS9, 1 for Voyager, and 2 or 3 "best ofs". My advise would be to look at the series albums first, because I think they're Album only, and you can then reduce the number of times you end up buying the Main themes.

Plus, it's an easy place to also pick up one specific Steppenwolf song that doesn't seem to be on the score of one film.

While not the "epic" sort of music folks have been suggesting, I feel that no STO playlist would be complete without Voltaire's "Banned On Vulcan!" album. Featuring such classics as:

Basically I like anything that invokes an emotional response rather than generic atmospherics. The score is very fitting i'm sure but very little of it really stirs my blood.
