Okay this has been going on for as long as I can remember.
Why do I have to press the Ships combat skills 2 to 4 times before the darn skill actually will work. Pressing it will cause the skill to start, but then it drops it and you press again and sometimes you have to do this 3 or 4 times before the skill will actually work.
What is going on here?
It does this when I use the keyboard and I am trying to fire off my skills one after the other and its even worse if I try using my G13 Gamepad from Logitech.
Would like to hear if this is a known issue and if being worked on cause right now this is the most annoying thing in the game, far worse then all the downtime.
It could be my laptop but I think there is a max number of key/command you can use at a time (incl movement)
Yes, there appears to be some kind of global cooldown or at least interference. For each ability, I have to wait about a second before I can activate another one. This includes torpedoes, cannons, and shield reinforcement, too, apparently. Beams do not seem to be affected. Changing power level settings or impulse levels sometimes seems to cause the global cooldown as well.
I have definitely noticed a maximum simultaneous input cap in the game, considering the number of inputs we are forced to spam this is a serious issue.
An *old* keyboard will support 2 simultaneous keystrokes, newer keyboards will support 3 and up. It shouldn't be a problem with the G13 though, which can support 7. I'm experiencing this on my Saitek too, and not just during periods of high latency, so I'm inclined to point my finger directly at the game itself.
It's annoying as hell in Klingon ships, you spend all your time manouvering into a good poisiton then you have to stop steering to fire off your weapons, and lo and behold you've lost your 45 degree arc. I've tried navigating by mouse but it's just not as good... might try a 360 controller.
