Lack of Science getting Drops.. - Devs?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
When I started my Science officer, I knew that the bigger I got, the less DPS I would be able to do in battle. The trade off for this loss was the ability to support those ships around me via heals or disabling the enemy ship(s).

As an Ensign and Lt, I never had any problems with enemy loot. Seemed like everyone got a little.

As an LtC in a Science Vessel, not so much...

In fact, I just completed 3 fleet runs and 4 Defending sector block missions. My total take from a day of playing was 5 batteries....

So obviously the drops are based solely on DPS, and while grouping might help to average out the loot (maybe). Many players do not want to be in a group for Fleet and Defend Sector Block missions.

This leaves the Science players out in the cold...

I have no solution to offer for this problem. I am simply posting that there IS a problem...

Please look into this Devs. It's really making me hate being a Science player.

You can't do fleet actions or sector defense solo. I am not referring to solo'able missions.

@angrydog1, I am a Science officer LtC 2 in a Science vessel. I have mostly strip and survivability skills. So I don't even hold a candle to an escort or a cruiser. I am lucky to get one drop on a sector mission, and I never see anything in a fleet event outside of the end reward. Which thus far has been a battery every time..

Yet I save ships, tank ships, and disable ships left and right. Allowing those with the DPS to do their job.

Often I find people in both those missions do not wish to partake in a group, as it doesn't really do anything for them...

I am really bothered by the current setup Cryptic has in place..

Cruisers are mostly hosed with this system also in fleet engagements. This has been an ongoing topic since closed beta with no changes on Cryptic's part to date. The excessive battery drops have also been complained about since late closed beta/open beta when they changed the loot drop tables.

I run science too and have to confirm that - even though I think the core of the problem lies somewhere else. There are 2 discrepancies at the moment:

    1. DPS takes it all
It striked me during OB, that those who DPS'ed most got far better loot than those who were not forward facing machine guns. See Fleet Actions. 1-8 Escorts with far better rewards as the rest of the Fleet.

    2. Drop/Loot quality
I have noticed that the drop quality from Open Beta to THIS version changed dramatically. In OB I was totaly well equipped at the point where I am now.

I even don't have the lust to loot anymore since 99% I get...guess what? Damn batteries.

Please change those. It really is annoying and demotivating.

Are you a Sci in a Sci ship? If so it might be your weapons. I did a fleet action earlyer today and got alot of drops. I ended up being the number 2 guy there at the end. And even got my Mk3 quantoms that I was hoping for.

If it is your weapons Id say go with dual phasers in front and a quantom torp and 2 phasers in the rear. Oh and high yield ofcourse. Wait for there shields to go down and fire your torps straight at the hull. Youll end up getting many kill shots wich seems to give me good items.

Oh and right now im using 70/70/25/30 for my power systems, ofcourse they are boosted with consoles and abilities. Or is it 70/80/25/30 I cant remember. Either way you can easily get as many drops as escorts.
