I tend to use a dual cannon, ideally heavy and 2 single beam arrays, one for, one aft.

If you do that you must take ages to kill big ships. High Yield Torpedoes from a quantum will almost one hit most things in that level range.

Nope, ships in that range are pansies, they go down fast enough to cannons.

I used torpedo boat build on my T1 ship with 2 fore torps and aft turret. Before I tried it i was a bit sceptical about damage on shields but it seems torps and turret do decent damage on shields and devastate hull :p

Now I'm using Science vessel as torpedo boat with 2 fore torps and 2 aft turrets

When I get to T3 i plan to add a dual beam on the 3rd fore slot for some extra shield damage :D

the highest rank HYT for your class and quantoms will almost one hit ANYTHING at your level range... whatever it is :D

as for me, I haven't gotten quantums yet so i use 2 arrays and a torp launcher

2x Phaser MkII with accuracy bonus (upgraded to them from collecting anomolies) and a Photon Torp MkII on my Miranda.

I used a Quantum Torpedo Mk II on my ship in beta. I think I prefer that to the Photon Torp. It's what I'm packing on my Nova class now.

    I'd just like to add...

Disruptors on Federation starships makes baby Jesus cry people! :(:D

Two dual disruptor cannons up front and a disruptor turret in the rear, powered by a lot of spamming of the spacebar.

Yeah, I don't do any insane spike damage (unless I'm under 4k and hitting a downed shield), but I do a TON of consistent damage.

Oh, and I have no energy problems either because I have an EPS Conduit installed.

Either 3 beams for broadsides or a dual(heavy) cannon, torp, and turret.

First one is easier to use and kills slower, second one is probably most efficient if used right.

Ive also done two cannons and a turret, its sort of a compromise, you can just spam spacebar. It also kills trash enemies faster, but torps are nice for enemy battleships.

at end of veta had two mk4 dual phaser banks and a mk4 quantum up front ant a mk4 phaser array aft ,i would fly up to neghvar unload a qtorp spread and hit them with both dual banks and qtorps till dead worked really well unless you were facing lots of cruisers or birdss of prey
