Friday night and most of Saturday space combat was very well balanced. I was able to take on several ships of equal level, or one of +1 or +2 is I was careful, by using all my cooldowns and manuevering carefully. Died a couple of times, which is okay.
Then last night after the late hour down time, logged back in and grabbed my new second level ship and joined a fourth level friend of mine. First mission was the two of us up against two Negh'var battleships. I was really worried as we were in my friends mission and I had almost no enhancements on my ship, but I said "Let's try it."
We wiped the floor with them. Seriously, my shields never went below 95%. 15 seconds of phasers were bringing down their shields and a torpedo volley was knocking them down to 2/3 of their hull. This should have been an extremely tough fight, and it was more a picnic in the park.
Space combat this morning is the same... senemy ships can't even dent my shields, and my waepons are making mincemeat out of their shields and hulls. The strange thing is, there was no patch after last night's downtime. It almost feels like a code roll back to the "care bear" patch that we had during open beta.
Has anyone else noticed this, or have I just become super-awesome over night?

You've become super awesome over night.
In all seriousness. I've found that the first few missions in your new ship are always easy. it makes sense as your new ship needs to last you through the next 10 levels. 10 levels that will get progressively harder where as your ship just jumped in an instant.
Sure your new skills, mods and BO's will make a significant difference but I think my point still stands.

I agree with that, but there was a significant drop in difficulty. Friday night, I did Stranded in Space with a level 3 and although I made it through without too much difficulty, but I definitely had to think and use my BO abilities (I had two of them). Today, doing it again with a level 2, and only one BO, there was no danger at all. I flew in between two ships and sat there not firing while they pounded away at me. After 2 minutes, my shields were at 98% and my hull at 95% (due to bleedthrough from torps). I opened fire and they were destroyed in 30 seconds.
Servers just went down for emergency maintenance. I suspect it is to address this.

That seems a little extreme. The only thing I can think of there is that you had a different shield? The Cov shield I believe has a huge recharge rate over some of the others. That would keep your shields up as long as there's good power to your ship.
I'm not doubting it possibly got easier, just trying to find a good reason outside of nerfing.

covariant is the weakest regen of the 4 generic shield types.
only thing I know of off hand with lower regen is paratrinic, which has an insane shield max.
well i soloed +8 escort in my cruiser at level 12, not that hard.
then i ran into a battleship that disabled my ship, took my shield down and one shotted me with a plaama nuke torp.
the +8 escort was on par with the old difficulty like miranda vs cruiser, maybe slightly easier. but missions sofar been tearing stuff apart, named battleships and all. so we see if the dif goes up mid lt commander missions etc or not.
I do know the difficulty ramp doesn't really start up until lvl 14 or so. Also, if you are grouped with a lower level player I believe the ship difficulty descopes to the lowest level, so while you may see 2 ships, they are for your lvl 4 friends level and not yours...loot drops are the same. This prevents high level folks from coming in and 'helping' a low level roll through missions with huge loot drops, etc.
I did a few joint missions with my g/f on a lvl 5 alt (we both were 5) and the combat was about what I'd expect from that level. Doing some Regulus missions later on my lvl 9, the combat seemed to be about normal to me....ie. not too hard, but not easy either. The server hasn't been online enough since I've been up today for me to notice any combat difference.
The last night and this morning was base ship with base equipment, and I'm comparing same mission to same mission. I know there is a ramp up around 14 (I got to 18 in OB), but that is not what I am talking about. This is an apples to apples comparison between Friday night and this morning.
It will be interesting to see what they brought the servers down for (this was not an outage, this was an announced down for emergency maintenance).
so i loged on my klingon's BoP and kill 3 spawn in one pass( +1 ships ) i was about to bug it...just seemed way to easy....btw i dont have torp's or cannons on that ship...and didnt use a wepon skill or booster..
But didnt you say you were doing a level 4 quest with a level 11 ship... doh seems like the reason it was easy was cause you were fighting stuff 6-7 levels lower then you.

Somebody mustve misplaced a zero in a modifier XD

Cryptic have said the game doesn't get challenging until mid-way through Lt.C. They didn't make it harder after OB.
