Why the heck can't you show all NPC names by default?!!

It would make it a lot easier to find people. Right now the only way to see their names is to mouse over them, which is a *huge pain*.
You're allowed to turn on player names by default. There is also an option to always show your own name, even though that doesn't seem to work for me.
What I want is ALL characters (myself, NPC's, enemies, players) to always have their names above them at all times. Why won't they let us do this?
