Should I have bought a lottery ticket?

I logged in, made my character, and got to the rescue-crewmen part (space). I was going to open the status tab and switch my ship's registry number to the one I had in beta (94252), only to discover that my ship already had that number. Is this just a coincidence, or are default registry numbers randomly chosen from a list instead of being a fully random number?
