    Vorec,

I have some questions for you about your Fleet. First off, I'm a fellow 0331. I enlisted in 1999. I too served in Iraq in 2003, from Feb.-May. I was honorably discharged a month later than my EAS date due to stop loss, but I was discharged the summer of 2003. So it's shocking to run across another 0331 who joined around the same time frame I did, and experienced some of what I experienced in life. Now onto the questions.

Keep in mind, these questions are concerns about relevency and redundancy. I'm looking for a fleet that strongly pertains to STO and makes sense in their structure. This thread piqued my interest, which means it mostly fits the very strict criteria I have for me to even bother getting involved in a fleet.

    1. You have assault and escort squadrons. Since every officer runs a ship capable of handling anything all by themselves, why is there a need for escort squadrons? Where can an escort squadron get admirality, emmisaries, or other notables that they couldn't get to on their own, or couldn't borrow an assault squadron for?

    2. You have many people dedicated to JAG and R&D. Unless your fleet is enormous, you should know through your military experience that you don't need so many people in those areas, if you need those areas at all. As you know from your military experience, the Captain (CO) should have the power to excercise official punishment on the people under them if the crime and punishment isn't serious (ie. serious = removal from guild or reduction of rank). Even if you did need a JAG, which I could see the sense in it for investigations of violations that would result in a reduction in rank or removal from the guild, I don't think you need more than a few people to handle that. Since there isn't a crafting system in the game, R&D doesn't seem necessarily, much less having squadrons of people dedicated to it. Those who are of Capt. and above rank should be able to handle passing out loot from the fleet bank.

I just think it'd be more efficient to do things that way. That way you can funnel more people into parts of the fleet that has more relevency to the game, which is tactical: assault.

Hello Nate! First of all let me thank you for your service. Secondly, welcome to our fleet STO page. As Captain of JAG, I can answer one of your questions. My squadron currently only has 4 members. Counting myself. Our main responsibility is too insure that any problems, concerns, or issues, that may arise as far as fleet policy, whether ingame or otherwise, are dealt with swiftly, and in an orderly fashion. We also, create fleet policy. With of course, final approval by the Admiralty. I do agree, that going strictly by military code, there would seem to be no need for an entire squad dedicated to this. However, although a large portion of our fleet are either current, or retired military, alot are'nt. So, this allows some flexability for the other leadership to handle more Squad based activities. Hope this helps at least answer part of your question. And again, Welcome to our STO fleet page. :)

First off where were you (unit wise)? In terms of your questions Hagrin did a good job explaining JAG... R&D are our crafters who don't enjoy combat as much as other players. While the system is limited, there is a crafting system in place which requires a substantial amount of resources to complete. Our Trade guys support R&D by providing them with the resources they need.

Now Escorts work much in the same way. They support the Assaults in offensive operations, act in a defensive role (for future expansions... like Starbase defense), and then they also run escort for our trade guys (if they find themselves in areas where they might need firepower).

The thing is, everything we do has a purpose. Yes, every ship is capable of some type of form of combat. But our Escort, Assault, and other similar crew are combat oriented and focus on doing massive DPS and tanking. Our trade or research guys aren't normally geared towards combat and thus are support or in need of DPS/Tanking.

When I created this fleet... I put everything together to make the full use of how the game is now, and what Cryptics plans for it for the future. For example, we're tossing around an idea for a Starfleet Marine Corps. While that wouldn't be all that useful now, Cryptic has said that they're adding in more ground missions, combat, etc.

Well I really like what I see. It's not overly structured, and the structure you have actually pertains to the game we're playing. So I'm going to head on over to your website and submit an application. See you there!

    I was with 2/6 btw.

Above is the link to my application.

I have another question. Since the game utilizes Chielf, Ensign, LT. JG, LT, and so on, is the fleet utilizing the same ranks? If so, is the rank we hold in the fleet, the rank we're expected to show on our uniform in the game? I like the idea of being reqiured to wear our rank we hold in the fleet on our inform, rather than the rank we've earned in game, since the former allows diversity in rank and something visual to work towards, while the latter will have a fleet full of players wearing Admiral pips.

nate welcome to the sto 4th fleet forum. as for the uniforms the uniform you make in game can show what ever you like. you will get a fleet uniform. in events or playing with fleet members then we want you to be in uniform. on the forums you will need the 4th fleet insignia for avatar repersenting your rank. if you have further questions you can ask on ventrilo that was posted in your application, and when you are entered into the replacement adademy will be inform you of everything about the fleet.

Fellow allies of the 4th Fleet. I would like to extend an invite for you to join Omega and other allied fleets for a gathering at DS9 on the Prominade on Saturday at 2pm EST. The goal is to socialize with other members and do some armada battles in PVE and PVP zones.

    Lieutenant Jr. Grade
    Lieutenant
    Lieutenant Commander
    Commander
    Captain
    Rear Admiral
    Vice Admiral

Hey, I read that you're having problems with inactive members. Hearing such things on a public forum, instead of privately is discouraging. It makes it seem like the Fleet is having a hard time with retention. It hasn't disuaded me from joining, but might I suggest keeping such things in the chain of command. You know, if a person is having problems, the only person that needs to hear it is that persons direct superior officer. Because if I read the inactive member problem, then every potential recruit probably did too. Just a suggestion.
