    Based upon what I've read from google (4 years ago)..
    • the tooltip showed cat 2
    • testing showed cat 1
    • trait is working for beam overload
    • not working for BFAW
    • a note about the trait possibly getting "adjusted"
    • final disposition unknown

    There is a bug report in this forum here from 2 years ago.

    However, the trait is listed at 3 out of 4 stars for energy builds (for beam builds including BFAW and BO) in the math people's list of starship traits. They are usually a pretty accurate bunch. Have a look (think it must have gotten fixed) but it doesn't necessarily answer your question though.
