Buying a new ship

I have been browsing at a new shop I want once I get the money for it but while Inspecting it I noticed that under officer stations each of the station boxes has a semi-circle on each side of them although two of them instead of being the same color as the station box itself they are both grey with one of them having a little triangle in it, what the the grey circles mean? And what about the triangle?

Greyed out boff seats usually denote universal seating, meaning you can seat any boff there, tactical, engineering, science. The triangle and other shapes, I think you could be referring to specialisations ie boff with miracle worker ability can be seated there.
