Help! Can’t seem to get past Taris Mission

Im a newbie to Star Trek Online, and it’s unfortunate this has to be my first post, but I’m to the point of desperate.

I’ve been really enjoying the story thus far, but I seem to be stuck on a particular mission called Taris, involving Romulans Republic. The mission says,”Travel to the Hobus System, which is located in the Beta Quadrant, and rendezvous with the RRW Leiset”. I’ve started this mission about six times over a few days, and I cannot figure out what I’m doing wrong.

The first part requires scanning planetary fragments and collecting samples. Three ships come out of cloaking which I can destroy like other missions. You continue to scan and collect samples. Here’s where it gets weird.

An enemy ship comes out of cloaking. It hails me, but if I answer the hail, it seems impossible to defeat. The ship constantly regenerates health, and uses a tractor beam, then pretty much blows me to dust. If I have him down to 85% or so, upon respawning, he’s cloaked, only to reappear at full health. This creates a cycle of me reducing his health, me blowing up, and him back at full health.

I restarted the mission more than once because I felt there may be a glitch. I tried not answering the hail. All the sudden, I could get his health down. I got it down to 1%, then answered the hail, so now the mission progresses. I hid in the asteroids, a ship came for him, and then it says to follow him, which I did.

In the second part of the mission, it asks you to investigate the planet Iconia. It says to scan a crater, but the area to go to was barely visible, it took me awhile to even figure that out. I scanned it, then a ship decloaks, and it must be defeated. It says ‘defeat the I.R.W. Intrakhu’. There seems to be the same problem with it…I cannot get its health down much, I die, I respawn, he decloaks, he’s at full health. I can’t get past it.

I might add, I just tried the second part again. When it says to scan crater, the green area to go to is big and clearly visible on my recent run.

I’m playing at normal setting. The story was flowing nicely at a challenging enough level for someone new like me, I was capable of completing every mission to this point.

My thoughts are as follows.
1. Glitch
2. Weapon/gear requirement which I am unaware of
3. Not levelled high enough to complete the mission, which seems unlikely considering I got this far fairly easily.
4. I’m simply doing something wrong.

If someone has any tips/tricks/hints, I would appreciate it a lot.

I have it saved to the second part of scanning the crater on Iconia, I was able to transwarp to Spacedock to get out of the madness, lol.

I’m on PSN if that makes a difference. Level 39, normal setting. Thank you in advance.

Battling the Romulan Empire is quite difficult if you're working with just the gear you've acquired from levelling up and mission rewards.

Romulans will launch Heavy Plasma Torpedo's at you which deal huge damage.
They cannot be avoided, but the damage can be mitigated in two ways:
    • Target those torpedo's and destroy them before they hit you, avoids the damage entirely; or
    • Buy/Craft an Engineering Console that offers resistance against physical & kinetic damage.

Another thing you can do is to make sure all of your weapons are doing the same kind of damage (phaser, disruptor, tetryon, whatever) and that you use Tactical consoles that boost that particular damage.
This will help speed you up in terms of the damage that you do.

Feel free to PM me your inagme '@handle' and the level of your character, and I'd happily craft you some stuff that would help.

Thank you so much for your reply! I gave it another shot yesterday, and discovered it is the torpedoes indeed which are destroying me. I got his health to 25%… and barely saw the torpedoes coming. Boom. I respawned and he was at 100% once again. It’s frustrating me to no end, lol.

I’m still trying to figure out all the ship upgrades. I’m a little confused at the moment.

I sincerely appreciate your offer of gear! I will accept as long as it takes nothing from your own stuff, in game money, or affects your gameplay as a result. You are extremely generous!

Note - Thanks to @inferiority’s help, I was able to complete the mission after a few tries.

If anyone else is having difficulty, some tricks I used along with @inferiority’s gifted gear were as follows…

    1. Watch the torpedoes coming at you, press square before they hit you to blow them to dust.
    2. Stay below the enemy ship. It really seemed to help.

That mission seemed like the most difficult for me so far.
