How does Starship Mastery space trait work?

1. How do Starship Mastery space trait passive buffs work at levels 1 to 5?
2. When you reach level 5, does that space trait have to be actively selected on the ship to get that passive benefit or buffs?
3. Do the passive buffs from levels 1 to 4 stack with other advanced space traits that give the same buffs?

1. Ranks 1 to 4 are always active and passive, as long as you've reached/passed that rank;
2. At Ranks 5 (and 6 for some ships) those unlocked Traits need to be slotted in your "Starship Trait" slots on your character sheet;
3. I believe they do, but am happy to be contradicted if someone knows better.
