Hey all!
Literally made an account just to post this topic. I've seen on the STO reddit page a few times there's been mention of the terrible camera view/zoom for a fair amount of ships on console and most recently the Legendary Inquiry especially highlighted this. I have noticed for a while that in particular any ships with a hanger are particularly affected though I chalked this up initially to being a gameplay element due to us needing to see the fighters though not sure how true that is.
In one of the recent Ten Forwards, Kael asked that a list be made: I call on all Console players who care about this issue, let's start this list today, continue the list tomorrow and continue making this list until every last Console ship has been fixed!
Now I main Federation so my knowledge of the issue on non-Federation ships is low so please contribute to this list. Please note this issue is affects only in space maps, Sector Space the zoom is vastly improved.
Known Ships with an issue:
Federation:
All ships of the Avenger line
All ships of the Defiant line
All ships of the Oberth line (one of the worst in the game tbh)
All ships of DIS Starfleet (Nimtz, Walker, Cardenas, Magee etc)
All ships of the Nova line
All ships of the NX line
All ships of the Constitution line
All ships of the Excelsior line
Most of the Miranda line (the only one that doesn't seem affected is the Bozeman)
Discovery Constitution Flight Deck Cruiser
La Sirena
Excelsior II
Non-Federation:
All ships of the B'Rel/Klingon BoP line
All ships of the Romulan BoP/T'Liss line
Discovery D7 Flight Deck Cruiser
Now, I know these are all considered small or medium ships but we should still be able to get good zoom-in. Some are so small you can barely see it on screen and then the science show begins and you have no clue where your ship is like the NX and Oberth.
We aren't asking for a total custom zoom slider like in PC but if the view/zoom of these ships could be improved - similar to the close-ups we already get in Sector Space with them - it would be great and would allow us to better admire and appreciate the hard work that went into these ships to begin with.
P.S. Inquiry Gamma still has a broken hull/saucer on Console!

Adjusting each and every ship I think is more work than necessary for the devs. I think a more catch all approach (if possible) would be more time effective for them.
Overly small and overly large ships need this most. escorts and beasts like Juggernauts and the Cnidarian!
As a console main (PS5) the camera zoom 'issue' has always been something that has bothered me. After playing around on PC with keybinds. I have found that the following commands work =
Joy4+Lstick_up "AdjustCamDistance 5"
Joy4+Lstick_down "AdjustCamDistance -5"
These commands basically adjust the camera zoom level in & out by a small distance whilst holding R3 & moving the left stick up ONCE and down ONCE, each time the stick is moved forward or backward. So, hold R3 & move the left stick up once, the camera zooms in, move the stick again, it zooms in again. Hold R3 & move the left stick down once, camera zooms out, etc, etc.
I am no game developer, at all, I'm not even sure if keybinds work the same on the console versions, but this keybind made it possible to adjust the camera more precisely, without any mouse input.
Oh, my ship does move its 'nose' up & down whilst moving the stick, as I already have a keybind setup that 'tries' to mimic the PS5 layout.
Thanks & LLAP 🖖
