Do i need to put gear on my Admiralty ships or does it even matter.

There's no way to add gear to Admiralty ships. All you have are the three stats on the ship (Eng/Tac/Sci) and whatever bonus ability it provides ("+10 Tac per Sci ship", etc.).

They're not real ships but more like ship "playing cards" that you send out to do assignments.
