Takedown (Delta Quadrant finale)

So... I know I've done this mission a few times before on other characters, and I do still remember it being bad because there's just no way to fight so many of the enemies.

For a start, ALL the Vaadwaur are ridiculously durable, and they appear in such large numbers that it practically takes a miracle to avoid your away team being wiped out during every fight. THEN they send those Overseers, who basically take NO damage from anything, and oneshot every single one of your away team, then twoshot the player character as well. Fighting one of them means somewhere on the order of 20-25 team wipes before you manage to whittle him down.

Then you get to the final battle with Gaul and his various troops, and again you're just constantly swamped by numbers, then another undefeatable Overseer... Gaul himself is actually a reasonable fight... but then he comes back with another army of troops AND critters AND invulnerability casting doodads and technicians... It's another battle where it's just wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe... repeat over and over and over until you defeat ONE enemy, wipe another 20 times, defeat a second enemy, wipe 10 or 15 more times and so on until you finally beat Gaul.

Maybe some people find this level of difficulty fun... but I really don't. There's just no way I could possibly ever defeat this mission without at least 40 or 50 full wipes. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There's no thrill of victory for having overcome a difficult foe... because I didn't. I just wore it down because it couldn't actually defeat me (because respawns).

I know, this is old, OLD news, but I needed to vent. Fights like this just strike me as bad design. I hope they don't go back to making missions this ridiculous.
Once, I was simply called Mojo. Now, I'm forced into a new name, but don't be fooled, I'm the original STO Mojo!

This game needs detailed crafting, exploration and interaction systems.

I used to have such a difficult time getting through this stage years ago when I first started playing this game. The Delta stages got much, MUCH easier when I finally leveled up my characters to Lv 65, got endeavors far along past 400, and have gotten my character and his away party's gear leveled up past Mk XII.
Which does make me wonder, what level is your character at, what is the quality of your gear, and how far along are you with endeavors?

I don't recall ever having an issue with this Episode, even back when it was brand new and everything in the Delta Arc was much more difficult. I was still leveling my main through the Delta Arc after the cap increase, too. I'm not a DPSer, or a min-maxer. And I also mostly only use Mk XII Rep gear. Not meaning to be mean or rude, but getting wiped seems to be a recurring theme with you, Marik. Perhaps this is more about your tactics than how you're geared.

There is a solution....UPGRADE! He was hard before Cryptic upped the level cap on gear, now he's just a minor annoyance. It's not bad level design to have a 'tough' boss either.

A point to make here; it's easier to beat him on console than PC as you can set up your conditional triggers.

If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

I agree - upgrade. Base damage between XII and XV is at least x2, not even counting the higher rarity mods.

Why even bother to upgrade for a mission boss. It's not as if that boss is particular difficult.
Against that boss gear mark XI rare should be more than sufficient.

If there is any worthwhile advice then it is to keep the synergy between kit modules/captain powers for your class in mind.
Other than that it is always possible to go lazy and spam event kit modules on him.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I use rep gear on my away teams, that helps a bit. Im sure ppl will disagree with my choice of gear but i prefer the old omega rep sets. Decent sets for an all round kit, handles borg and other races well. Also gives the player a reason to acquire all the sets to unlock the costume options. I also have used the delta set, idk probably any rep set will make a difference in boff survive ability. The romulan navy and operative sets (cant member if those are their exact names) are really nice and story unlocks. That mission used to bug out bad (a cple years ago) at the end and make you play it all over again just to have Gaul not jump back into the fight the second round and hope the third time it works, or fourth... lol

Don't be ashamed of equipping Rep gear. I don't follow Meta, and I care not for it either. All gear adds to survivability when it is properly upgraded. There's no excuse to not upgrade gear, it's cheap enough.

I got curious if there were any changes i was unaware of and replayed the mission with my unfinished Talaxian engineer equipped with mission rewards.

Only edge that character has is a finished endeavor system, but i feel the vaadwaur are not the challenge they used to be even without reputation or upgraded gear.

Just remember to roll with the (not so proverbial) punches to prevent a stun from the Gaul Jump/charge.

I noticed that plasma fires either from exotermic induction field, romulan embassy turrets or plasma grenades tends to invoke Jump/charge behavior from Gaul and the other overseers. It gets them really fired up. (sorry for the pun).

Melee does work, but beware of melee weapons which ground your character movement.

A circular motion with a minigun or assault rifle is effective since Gaul has difficulties aiming.

Edit: a circular motion with a split beam or wide beam rifle or a Boolian/Jax Phaser cannon also work.

Edit 2: If you experience difficulties with the drones then electric damage type is helpful. Think Sompek shotgun, Tsunkate glove or, if you can stand the purple glow, the lukari reputation ground set.
