Finally level 65

vaylottevaylotte Member Posts: 69 Arc User
Hi guys,
I got to 65 via Doff missions and Admiralty missions.
Now I have enough zen to buy a tier 6 ship but there are so many to choose from I don't know what would be good for me.
What do you suggest for a new level 65 ?
Thanks in advance ...

It really depends on what Career you have chosen to play as, how you prefer to play, and your choice of faction.

However, here's some suggestions from me:
    • Gagarin Miracle Worker Battlecruiser
      260px-Fed_Ship_Gagarin.png
One of the most useful ships out there if you enjoy playing with beams and broadsiding.
It has an essential trait if you like to use Cannons: Scatter Volley or Beam: Fire At Will - activating either of those skills will also apply Torpedo Spread and vice versa.
There's a KDF-equivalent ship too - the Qugh Miracle Worker Battlecruiser, which has the advantage of being able to cloak.
Both of these ships come with an extra Console slot due to being Miracle Workers.
      =/\=
    • Valiant Tactical Escort
      260px-Tactical_Escort_T6_Valiant.png
A great ship for a Tactical-based captain, and fans of Deep Space Nine due it having access to the Defiant skin.
It's Trait extends the duration of Cannon: Scatter Volley.
The Sao Paolo refit, a Tier 4 ship available for 150,000 dilithium, will come equipped with Phaser Quad Cannons which will form a set-part with the Valiant's console, slightly increasing your crit chance and crit severity.
      There's a KDF-equivalent too - the Kor Bird-of-Prey.
      =/\=
    • Pathfinder Long Range Science Vessel
      260px-Pathfinder_LRSV.png
A very Science-focused ship with a nice enough trait for enhanced healing. The Console allows you to deploy the Aero Shuttle, attached to the underside of the saucer. (We would have seen this in the show except Insurrection was going to show the Captain's Yacht detaching from the Enterprise so Voyager wasn't allowed to do the same. Instead, we got the Delta Flyer!)
      =/\=
    • Jhu'ael Tactical Carrier Warbird
      260px-Rom_Ship_Jhu%27ael.png
One of my favourite ships for Romulan captains that like to deal a lot of damage.
The Trait synergises with the Scorpion Fighter hangar pets and the Tier 4 Ar'kala version of this ship, comes with Quad Cannons just as the Valiant/Defiant.
      =/\=
    • D'Khellra Warbird Battlecruiser
      260px-D%27khellra_Warbird.PNG
An absolute beast of a ship that can be built to be almost impregnable. (Not quite invincible, but dame near it!)
For fans of the Romulans, this ship can adopt the D'deridex appearance.
While the ship can equip Cannons and Dual-Cannons, it turns like a TRIBBLE in syrup, so this is best built for Beams.
The turn rate can be improved slightly with a purchase of the T4 D'ridthau (150000 Dilithium) to gain access to a second console from the Set. It also gains a small increase to turn rate just after cloaking.
(Whilst I absolutely love this ship, it is also quite unpopular with others due to the really slow turn rate.)
      =/\=
    • Jem'Hadar Vanguard Dreadnought Cruiser
      260px-Jem%27Hadar_Vanguard_Dreadnought_Cruiser_T6.png
The Dominion's answer to the likes of the Galaxy and D'deridex, this Dreadnought Cruiser can also be built to be almost undefeatable.
Again, it's strength comes from using Beams as the main weapons due to the slow turn rate, but the two Supporting Wingmen craft make this one just a little bit more interesting to fly.
Finally, it's worth noting that while this ship costs 3000zen to buy, it can also be found in the Gamma Vanguard Starter Pack which only costs 2000zen! The pack also includes the Jem'Hadar Vanguard playable species, costume and a couple of player titles.
The only downside to this ship, is that it is only usable by Jem'Hadar and Jem'Hadar Vanguard characters until you unlock its' account-wide use by getting the Tier 6 Trait. (Most other ships become usable by any faction only when you get a KDF character to level 65.)
      =/\=

Well, there's some of my favourites to play - all opinions are my own and I'm sure there's plenty others to recommend.
All of the above, except the Jem'Hadar Vanguard Dreadnought, also have Fleet variants available. These have a 10% increase to Hull and Shields and have an extra console slot compared to their Z-Store versions. However, Fleet versions of ships do not have Traits, Consoles or Special Equipment on them.

    65 via doffing and admiralty?

You might be in for a bit of a gameplay shock if your gear is woefully out of date. A T6 isn't going to magically solve that. You'll likely want to do some missions to get some gear to hold you over until you get your reputations in order.

As for the topic of the ship.. more information would be appreciated. Which faction and playstyle are you going for? Do you have cross-faction flying? Are you looking for ships that are fun platforms to play with on their own? Or, are you wanting essential starship traits/consoles that will help propel your overall performance?

In general, the "Terran" ships in the C-Store are mostly excellent and cover a broad range of playstyles if you want a starfleet styled ship(they can use non-terran appearance options). Most of these are very new and feature excellent mixed-spec builds that even put many 'premium'/'gamble' ships to shame with their stats and performance. Other factions are a bit more fickle, but there are some shared ship types that are good regardless of which factional counterpart you pick up:

    -=Tactical Command Battlecruisers=-
    FED: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Presidio_Tactical_Command_Battlecruiser
    KDF: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Ty'Gokor_Tactical_Command_Battlecruiser
    ROM: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Vastam_Tactical_Command_Warbird
Probably the tankiest of my recommendations. These are big 4/4 battlecruisers with a full Command spec and a hangar. They all come at the fleet level straight out of the C-Store.

    -=Science Pilot Escorts=-
    FED: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Icarus_Science_Pilot_Escort
    KDF: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Klavek_Science_Pilot_Raptor
    ROM: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Jaeih_Science_Pilot_Warbird
These are super-agile gunships if you want a zoom and boom playstyle with cannons blazing. There are also "Allied" Pilot escorts if you'd rather have something Andorian/Lethean/Dewan. I recommend the Engineering variant of those instead of the Science variants of these main-faction ones for a more comfortable bridge seating arrangement. They all come at the fleet level straight out of the C-Store.

    -=Recon MMVs=-
    FED: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Palatine_Multi-Mission_Reconnaissance_Explorer
    KDF: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Gorn_Khaimas_Multi-Mission_Reconnaissance_Vessel
    ROM: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Surhuelh_Reconnaissance_Explorer_Warbird
If you prefer science vessels, these are the staple space-magic platforms for each faction. Their temporal seat allows for heavy EPG builds. Conversely, the 4 tactical consoles let you run a very respectable DEWSCI hybrid build if you don't want to commit to a full torpedo boat setup. You also get a hangar for fighter support. They all come at the fleet level straight out of the C-Store.

For Jem Hadar characters, my top 3 picks would probably be:
    https://stowiki.net/wiki/Jem'Hadar_Vanguard_Temporal_Warship
    https://stowiki.net/wiki/Jem'Hadar_Vanguard_Warship
    https://stowiki.net/wiki/Jem'Hadar_Vanguard_Carrier
The Warships are roughly similar 'tanky-dps' platforms - the Temporal is easier to fit and more newbie friendly; the regular is harder to fit but has much more high-end potential. The Temporal Warship does NOT come at fleet grade, so you'll need a fleet module to get the full stats from it. The Carrier is the best science platform the faction has access to currently and was easily the best carrier/'Summoner' in the entire game until the new Advanced Engineering consoles changed that. Those consoles really aren't new player friendly though, so it's still a very solid pick for where you're currently at in the game.

OK thanks for the info guys. I'm Federation by the way and tactical.
I'll check out these ships and choose one.
I stopped at Dysons Sphere so i'll be playing that soon with my new ship ...

Since you're Federation, and if you're wanting a starfleet style ship, then I would highly recommend looking at these 3 terran ships. They're all top-notch for their respective gameplay styles and come at Fleet Grade:

Thanks for all the info. I bought the Gargarin Miracle one for Fed. Will probably buy some more when I have the money...
I have another question though. I have level scaling Phaser Beam Arrays in all my slots apart from 2x torpedo launchers. The DPS says 264 dps when in my inv but once I put them in a slot they now say 120 dps ... What the heck is with that ?

Leveless weapons show different numbers when in inventory and on the ship when you are in a ground social zone like ESD. In fact many other weapons, skills, and consoles do as well. To see the true numbers beam up to orbit or go to a patrol mission.

Space weapons often show weird numbers when on a ground map and ground weapons can be weird in space.
For best results, view space weapons in space, ground weapons on ground, and do not eat the small sachet of dessicant.

I think you made a fine choice.. it's a very nice ship and one of my personal favorites.

Now that you're level 65 it might be time to give some thought to gradually replacing the level scaling weapons. Mission rewards can help with this.

Here's one possible bridge officer layout for a Gagarin..

If you're going for a Phaser build, there's some nice mission rewards that can give you a decent boost to your build.
    • "Sunrise" has a 3-piece set including a Universal console that boosts damage, meaning it doesn't need to be slotted in a Tactical console slot. It's a short mission too, so it's quick to replay to collect all 3 parts.
(I love this set and use it in my own Phaser builds.)
    • "Scylla and Charybdis" has another nice 3-piece set available, but only 2 parts are required for the bonus to phaser damage.
      • "Stormbound" is shorter and has a nice alternative shield/impulse/deflector set.
      • "Midnight" offers another alternative set, but is quite long.
The visual from the Impulse Engine is nice though!
    • Other nice things can be obtained from Reputations:
      • The "Terran Task Force has a nice beam array available from Tier VI.
      • The Gamma Task Force has another nice universal console available at Tier II and an Omni-beam at Tier VI. The 2-part bonus is a nice phaser damage boost.
      • "Discovery Legends" has a good Dual Beam Bank at Tier II.
(All the Reputation things can be made cheaper if you've got the Discount project completed that comes available at Tier VI.)

There's plenty other stuff hidden all over the place too - a phaser energy torpedo, for example, is in the Phoenix Packs.

I'm partial to the Resolute Class, but I doubt anyone else would suggest it.

    Also, there's...
    https://sto.fandom.com/wiki/Reliant_Advanced_Light_Cruiser
It come with lots of visual variations including one that could fit in if you'd like to start out in TOS.

    Happy Hunting! B)
