Combat Targs not attacking

I don't know if this is by design but these Targs are starring to annoying me. They spend their time guarding me instead of attacking the enemy. They only attack if a Enemy is really close to me. I would prefer them to act more like a seeker drone, Miniaturized Elachi Walker, or the Bio-Engineered Furiadon. Right now they're basically useless. Even just expanding the range of defense would be great. I do have both Targs.
