Tides of Ice question

Hello! I've noticed during this event, after taking out a group of snowmen, some silvery cubes are sometimes left behind. When you run over them, they sort of explode. I haven't figured out their purpose. Would someone be able to enlighten me? Thanks!

It's a trait or Duty Officer your character has equipped. I forget which one, but it gives a buff you can pickup after defeating a foe.

Thanks. Can anyone else provide any info? I looked through my doffs and traits and can't seem to find something that would do this.

Silvery cubes? Sounds like this:

Defeated enemies drop those cubes, after having collected ten of them you have a chance of certain ground captain abilities being applied to you.
