Is there a way to turn off the new ship explosion animation?

I am not a fan of the new ship explosion animation. I get a large square black box, no explosion. I find it annoying and much worse than the old animation. Is there a way to turn it off without TRIBBLE up all of your other visual effects?

    No chance. They've spent so much time and effort on something so unnecessary that it's going nowhere. I wish more energy would be put into other parts of STO...I never once considered the explosions an issue. You exploded, waited to respawn and moved on. Am I the only one who didn't care about how it looks to blow-up and put my builds together to avoid doing that altogether? Now, maybe if they'd bring back Self Destruct...

    I've been experiencing a game flicker not sure if it's STO, if I have a video card headed south or the monitor. it's ONLY with STO, so I'm leaning toward that.
