Other ways to level ?

Hello i'm wondering if there are other ways to level other than doing the main story missions ?
If so what would happen to the main story missions, would they be really easy when I decided to go back and do them ?

    You can also get XP via duty officer and admiralty assignments.

    However Fred is correct... the enemies in missions scale to your level.

    If you're having issues advancing in missions, particularly in space, it might be because of the equipment you're using... in which case I would be happy to give some pointers if you tell me what you're trying to do (i.e. what ship you're using and what kind of weapons.)

    Well i've heard it's good to have all weapons the same type so i'm (next time I log in) going to sort that out. I have currently 3 different kinds of weapon on my ship :)

    Yes... generally you want to have all of your energy weapons be one energy type (there's six energy types), and all either beam-style or cannon-style.

    The reason for that is the synergy that you get from boosters... in the case of energy type, because the best tactical consoles are the energy-type-specific ones (Phaser Relay, Disruptor Coil, AP Mag Regulator, etc.) (and there's also a lot of other forms of boosts that can be type specific)... and in the case of weapon styles, because it maximizes the number of weapons that are affected by a single bridge officer skill (Beam Fire at Will and/or Beam Overload for beam weapons... Cannon Rapid Fire and/or Cannon Scatter Volley for cannon weapons).

    Most builders do advise using one (but only one) torpedo weapon as well. You can just get a really powerful one (like the Gravimetric, Neutronic, or Particle Emission Plasma)... or a versatile one like my fave, the Wide Angle Quantum... or one that is part of a useful set bonus like the Quantum Phase... or there are energy torpedoes like the Crystalline, the Nausicaan disruptor torpedo, etcetera (which do energy-type damage and get boosted by the tactical consoles)...

    Then.... you want to fill every tactical console slot that your ship has, with an energy-type booster console for your energy type. Exceptions to be made ONLY for other consoles that are both specifically tactical AND part of a set where you are getting a set bonus (such as the Undine or Discovery reputation sets, or the Morphogenic mission set).

    Any "universal" consoles you wish to use... should go in science or engineering slots. (Even if they are part of a useful set, such as the previously mentioned Quantum Phase set).

    Just to add about doing Patrols-

    Do ones that spawn enemies repeatedly, and if possible, have Gravity Well equipped so you can max kills and XP as much as possible.
    Set your difficulty to Elite. Enemies aren't tough till about level 60, so you can reduce difficulty then. The extra XP will bump you 2-4 levels easily per patrol till you hit 60+. Of course, this means having to upgrade your equipment each time you can, which you MUST do!!!

    The six patrols with the endless waves mechanic (that I know of) are the Kern, Kinjer, Brothra, Imaga, Nular, and Briar Patch ones. "Wanted" (Argala) is widely thought to be the best of the rest.

    They will work with a weapons build as well. What happens is that one of the battles, the enemies will respawn continously (as needed to continue providing a challenge) for a set period of time, so the more efficient you are at killing them, the more enemies spawn... equalling more kills and thus more loot and more XP.
