How many torpedoes are counted on torpedo upgrade attacks w/super charged weapons?

So the trait says firing a torpedo provides a stack of the buff and that it stacks up to 3 times.
But, what if it's a torpedo spread attack? Is there an automatic increase to 3 stacks for firing multiple torpedoes? Do I count each torpedo fired when using torpedo high yield attack? Or does each torpedo upgrade attack only count as one stack each time they're fired? Assuming they count at all?
