Somethings Gotta Give

Why are duty officer assignment chains so damn elusive? Seems like I’m hunting around at all hours of the day all over the map for a few to (not) trigger. Is the system itself bugged or am I doing something wrong? I’m on console (PS4) and it’s by sheer dumb TRIBBLE luck that I managed to finish them all on my main but my alts are sticking out all over. Anyone got suggestions other than “keep searching it’ll turn up eventually?”?

Thanks Som. Always appreciate the information. It just bugs me that if it has been a problem how come it’s been allowed to fester this long. With all the QoL updates they’ve done this should’ve been either done already or the system removed til fixed. Do you have any knowledge if they’re actually going to work on it or just leave it as is?

The thing is, it is by no means a simple fix. We know that the person responsible for programming the original Doff system left years ago. It needs a complete rebuild, but, this will take a considerable amount of time. I'm sure they may have even started on it, but as the system itself still does work quite well, there isn't a priority for it to be finished. It would have to be irreconsilibly broken for it to have a higher priority.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

I’d love and appreciate a revamp. I’m tired, as I’m sure others are, of trying to find the missions in the first place. Plus, a new system should be fun for players old and new to have fun with, especially if there are real tangible rewards attached to them other than just dil and officers. If you could get Tatar items and ships, for example, then the revamp is worth it in my opinion.

For ships it would have to take a really really long time to earn one since you can get all the doffs you want for free through recruitment and the fleet starbase. Not sure about earning taters, are they fries or tots? ;)

It should’ve read “rare ship equipment and consoles” instead of ships. Even if it ends up as salvage it’s a bonus. Hell, if they’ll let me earn some free onion rings at Buffalo Wild Wingz I’ll take that too ! Anything is better than the current system.

The duty officer system got bugged when the merged the maps into the larger maps they are now.

Many of the trigger walls are misaligned, and some missions are just damn near impossible to find.

The walls are misaligned in the Alpha Quadrant, but the chains have always been a pain to start or move along. I can dig up examples of people complaining about them dating back to when the DOff system was first released. Every time that I go in and actively look for the assignments, I find them with about the same amount of waiting that it took back in 2012.

The main difference is that practically nobody updates the DOffjobs Google Doc anymore, so you don't have the collaborative input of all of those people to help you anymore.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
