Since no one else has brought it up, I want to start a discussion of something that was mentioned on a recent Ten Forward. Someone asked about X-upgrades for characters, and he said that was "a possibility". Meaning it's not impossible, but of course who knows how far down the list of priorities it might be.
Given how OP anyone who has progressed very far in the Personal Endeavors already is, I think it would be a mistake to boost characters any further. What would you give them that isn't already strengthened by the Personal Endeavors system, anyway?
BOFFs are a very different issue. X-upgrades for BOFFs would be a great thing. There are three types of boosts I can think of:
1)
Upgrade a Boff's traits. This would let you convert a green or blue officer to a purple. This would be great for Boffs that you like, or have a large investment in, but aren't top tier due to their original traits.
2)
Additional traits for Boffs. One or two extra traits
that we can choose would be a really great thing. The locked traits on Boffs are annoying. Yes, yes... I know that not all of the traits that are allowed on characters could be allowed on Boffs. Problems of game mechanics. Still, even a limited subset of extra traits would go a long way to making Boffs stronger.
3)
Kit modules for Boffs! I have wanted to be able to give my Boffs at least one kit module for years. The big advantage of this is that Boffs are sometimes the only help you can get in a given situation. Someone of another role is not always available and willing to help you in a mission, for example. But if you could give a Boff a kit module of that other role, they might be able to provide enough help to get you through a difficult situation.
Any other ideas for strengthening Boffs?

Which would have zero effect on anything Boff-wise. Their stats are based off their actual Rank IIRC, not rarity. Only certain boffs get access to certain traits too, unless randomly generated.
As for BOff upgrading, that could be interesting, particularly if they gained ability to slot traits like player's can. Maybe have a certain number of Superior, regular and basic slots based on rarity and then whatever gets slotted in that slot is of that quality (Superior, etc.) and then have upgrades to the rarity of the BOff itself to improve the slots available. Failing that, being able to tack on a particular trait via some means to an existing one that adds that trait ,and potentially bumps up the rarity to reflect that, could work too. I'm imagining something like adding Operative to a BOff, or maybe something that boosts ship durability.
