I generally didn't have a problem with disconnects. However, my router was having issues, so I switched it out. It was a very old router (wifi N) that I had sitting around that I used to replace another router that got fried. Neither of these previous two routers seemed to have the ongoing "disconnect" problem during the past 5 years.
On the one hand, I now consistently get 200+mbps down, whereas it used to vary between 50-100 mbps. On the downside, I now get disconnected from the game every few minutes.
Is there a checklist or troubleshooting guide somewhere?
Restart WiFi, restart PC or it's WiFi connection.
Run Speedcheck.
Then run a traceroute to patchserver@cryptic.com (IIRC). Post it in Support Forum.
There are a few dozens reasons why. But it is always best practice to thoroughly rule out your end first.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Judging from the lack of others posting the same, there could be two other reasons. Your NAT type is set to Moderate or Strict, or your line has a fault. You should be able to see on your Router's own settings or diagnostic screen.

There is a major disconnect bug in the game at the moment on map load. If you are getting disconnected on loading into a TFO or out of a TFO chances are its the game bug and you can do nothing about it. The odd disconnect in a map is common as well though that is more rare and should be less then once an hour.

Is that a specific TFO or game version as I've not encountered that bug at all. I run the PC version FYI.

PC and it seems to be widespread over most TFO's. I also get it though far less often on DS9/ESD and other social zones. For some reason TFO's seem worse.

It's actually not map loading. It occurs randomly anywhere in the game - mid-TFO, running around on Qonos or Starfleet Academy, or moving items at the bank. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the DCs. I also don't have a problem with I use a Tmobile 5G hotspot.
A checklist would be useful to systematically test and eliminate problems.

If you have no problem with using a mobile hotspot, then it's on the line. Run a traceroute on the line you use and that may show you where, because it's obviously not the server. Again you can check your router diagnostics for CRC errors, which if high also show it's a line issue. And again, it could be your NAT on your line is restricted.

- changed the security from WPA2 to WPA2/WPA mixed
- switched MTU from auto to manual and set it to 1000 after doing ping tests
Still getting disconnects, but significantly improved.
