Accuracy Rating Inflation

Accuracy has become a little broken with all new consoles granting huge bonuses to accuracy rating. Take for example the Weapon Sensor Enhancer, the Altamid Modified Swarm Processor ore the Hostile Acquisiton. They all grant at least 30 accuracy rating, and the list doesn't stop there either. There are also many duty officers, starship traits and personal traits which will further boost your ships accuracy rating, with some even granting up to +50 accuracy rating per source. This has lead to Defense Rating becoming almost obsolete in any pvp scenario, since players are able to always have greater accuracy rating than any targets defense rating.

So I'm suggesting to slowly introduce new consoles, ship traits, personal traits and duty officers to balance out the accuracy and defense rating sources. In fact, there might be a good opportunity to begin with: There have been rumors going around regarding a T6 Steamrunner class being released somtime this year. A starship trait and/or maybe a console which passivly grants Defense Rating would make perfect sense for a starship which is also known as a "Blockade Runner".

    This is for PVP, right?

PVP is broken in so many other ways, and almost no one wants to play PVP, so I don't think it's worth any development effort to address.

There are more sources of Defense. There is a reason why people in pvp never stop moving. If you throttle down in PvP your a fool that deserves to explode.
Evasive maneuvers is your friend. If you are not running an Emergency conn doff use one... if you didn't earn it years ago its in the phoenix box. Use that to reset your evasive cool down.
Attack Pattern Omega is always a good idea... its a dmg buff sure but its also +30 defense at rank III... and complete immunity to movement disables and debuffs. If your letting people slow you down with things like cold hearted your going to explode.

Raw defense numbers are nice but most importantly you can't let yourself be stopped or worse held. So slot space traits that give you control immunity and or clear debuffs.
    - Smugglers luck will give you +40 defense when you loose a shield facing for 10s... AND it will give you immunity to control every 60s.
    - no retreat, no mercy... has a big catch but it does give you a flat +25 defense to all but your rear arc... which draw back gives you -25 to the rear face.
    - helmsman will drop 10s off your evasive... the conn doff is enough for most people but this isn't a bad trait especially if for some reason your not using the ECD
    - Fresh from R&R... provides a auto control cleanse and a immunity every 45s
    - Reputation trait Evasive Tactics... 6.3s of control immunity every 45s (with Tier 6)

You can also bypass the mechanic a bit by slotting Give your all from which will give you 20% dodge whenever you use a engi skill. Which means you should be able to add 20% dodge all the time.

PvP is a very different game from PvE... if your not planning how your going to keep your defense up your going to die a lot. To be honest all you really have to do is keep moving, and slot items traits and skills that will ensure you can keep moving.

One more thing I forgot. If you are running anything other then a reputation competition engine your playing the game very wrong. You should be set for perma zoom a prevailing fortified engine... and that zoom gives you +15 defense at all times.

I am very well aware of how to build and pilot a pvp ship. The point I'm trying to make here is NOT "Cryptic, help me, I'm too bad for this game so implement stuff that should make me unkillable!!!". I can reach the theoretical defense rating cap of about 309ish, but only while under the effects of powerful buffs like attack pattern omega 3 and borrowed time. That is not the point of this thread. I'm saying that such ludicrous defense is not enough to mitigate 300+ accuracy rating which can be easily achieved constantly.

Before I say anything, I would like to say that I wish Cryptic would do something about the HUGE pvp imbalance in this game.

That being said, if this is mostly about accuracy in pvp matches, it is very unlikely that Cryptic will do anything about it. The devs abandoned pvp YEARS ago, and there is no indication that they have any incination to try to fix it.

As far as pve, I don't see any evidence of there being a problem with defense/accuracy.

    Why should it be ?

They have already ruined PvP with 1001 saves and unkillable traits.

As much fun as it is to have to kill everyone twice in under 2 min, the game doesn't need to buff defense. Defense is part of frankly 6 passive lines of protection. Defense is just a hit no hit mechanic that overflows in a very small way into critical hit. Then we have shield mitigation. Then we have resistance. Then we have temp hull. Then we have traits that impart auto heals, resistances, and clears. Beyond all that we have active damage mitigation via boff skills, Captain skills, and a ton of click consoles.

its not accuracy or damage that makes PvP unplayable for the most part. Its the insane heals. Of course the extreme damage and extreme healing make random pvp or open kerrat pvp iffy. Non Min Maxed ships will be exposed pretty quickly. The last real high end match I played in 4 or 5 years back was almost 2 hours long. Acc and Defense are the least of the games problems frankly. People trading 3 console slots for a relatively small bit of accuracy is FINE.

What you fail to see is how those consoles help new pvp players engage in PvP if they wish. The meta for weapon mods for a long time in PvE is CRTD and DMG in various amounts. Accuracy is NOT a mod anyone uses in PvE. When the PvE players que up for PvP during say a PvP endeavor day. There is a good chance they are going to see miss miss miss when fighting people rigged for PvP. Those consoles allow regular players to slot 2 or 3 consoles and no need to slot ACC weapons. In in PvP there isn't much need to roll stupid high Accuracy numbers. Overflow is over rated... overflow is in the game but the numbers don't lead to Accuracy being a great weapon mod either.

There was a point in the game where the good +acc consoles did not exist... and yes things like Emergency conns where. There was a span of about a year where escorts where basically unkillable. One of the reasons being no one having enough accuracy.
