PC vs Console

therealblackkaostherealblackkaos Member Posts: 121 Arc User
I got a question. I’ve been playing on PS4 for a minute. Always wanted to play on console but curious about keyboard versus console gameplay and controls. Any pc players have any thoughts and opinions on this? Any suggestions and tips would be helpful. If you can direct me to any strong guides that would help also. I know about the graphic processing power on pc might be different than console but I’m more concerned about actual gameplay mechanics.

PC has better menus, and keybinds that surpass what you can do with a game controller

I play PC and XBOX. PC does not have any conditional automation like the consoles do. You also have power tray UI that you can more easily track cooldowns. I mainly use keyboard for flight control, the mouse hardly gets used, and you can be more tactical and efficient, but this means you've far more to keep track of. Whereas PC is more 'tactical', Console is far-far more relaxing to play.

If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

PC doesn't have the idiotic controls where interact is the jump button, Pahvo TFO has so much keech on the ground that you can find yourself getting stuck and instead of simply jumping over the clutter you port back to the centre.

The aiming reticle on console is massive so a random player or npc can easily block you from talking with someone unless you stare at the ground or ceiling.

Targetting in space does let you lock targets but the game doesn't filter what gets locked so invariably it's not the enemy ship but a mine or other harmless clutter.

Auto use abilities trigger off the alert status and not actual combat, meaning certain ones can keep you in a perpetual state of alert. A lot of newer console clickies get forgotten about and the ability wheel loves to shuffle stuff around on a whim and rep trat abilities appear on the wheel regardless of having them active or not.

And a thankfully rare gem is that TFO's will have open voice comms, meaning you can hear pretty much everything that a player is doing from eating and bad singing to rather more "adult" activities.

Personally I like console over PC it has its "Perks" feels a little like 2015ish but with the content of 2020. yeah the controller might not be the greatest but once you get use to it its not that bad. if you really rather play console and step away from PC I recommend playing the game. What also helps too is knowledge of the game and how to get set up Quickly also with bonus experience this weekend its a great time to get yourself set up. something to consider for sure!

The first point above is definitely annoying.

The second point is avoidable by a setting that prevents targeting pets/mines/torps.

The third is plain frustrating with the added annoyance of the auto-triggers just plain not working half the time.

I don't have any problem with consoles.. that being said, I have never in my life seen any game play better on Console then on a PC.

There are exceptions of course, bad optimization from a lousy port, or comparing an XBox Series X to a 15 year old laptop.. but in general, the PC experience will be superior. The PC however comes with added cost and lacks the freedom to play with a controller from your couch.

It's always just a question of how important that convenience and easy accessibility is to you. If you just want the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to play it's hard to beat consoles. If you want the best experience though, PC is the answer.

I can't post yet, being new...but I have an issue that may seem silly. I play on xbox and have noticed that there are a few thing restricted to us that PC and playstation have access to. The big one for me is the Wrath of Khan movie uniforms. Why can't we have them? They are THE Starfleet uniforms. I appreciate all the new stuff being pushed and dont want stagnation in the genre, but frankly it is the old space maritime, cowboy diplomacy driven feel of the TOS movies that attracts me. I dont even bother with anything else with the exception of TNG and Enterprise. I like the old ships and uniforms and atmosphere much more. Not having access to those uniforms as a Starfleet temporal agent character is a slap in the face. Is this ever going to be solved? Will the Temporal Light Cruiser be made more readily available so people can use the Enterprise Constitution class skin on a t6? They tell us we can play Star Trek our way and they have no problem taking my money. Can I give it to them for something I actually want?

Should probably say that console and controller actually made pilotting an escort fun.

Although not a pilot escort because the maneuvers are done by clicking the left stick which is for controlling the direction of flight. But at least they weren't shoehorned into the ability wheel.

I play both XBOX and PC. IMO each it's unique with pros/cons but do prefer PC slightly due to keybinds.
