for something that is "free" in essence, it is no worse than some of the t6s out there.
my "go to" for playing has been last years dread. one of the most fun ships i have flown in this game. is it a DPS machine? nope. is it legendary? nope. does it look bad azz? hell yes! is it fun as all get out to fly and enjoy? hell yes!
all perspective. if all i have to do is grind out some events for several days, and i get a really neat ship that allows more enjoyment from the game as a whole, then i am on it.
i am looking forward to this ship. i got the carrier bundle, and have enjoyed flying those as well, however, i always return to the dread from last year. we shall see if this years can replace the dread, as i enjoy carrier style ships.
Love the Carrier even more now, but Advanced and Elite Lost Souls are broken. Are they being fixed? Please don't tell me you are bringing out a new Carrier and not bothering to fix that Carriers main Hangar Pets. I don't understand all this focus on Carriers only to keep leaving the core Hangar pets broken.
While Fekhiri designs aren't my thing, I have to complement Cryptic again for their awesome artwork with this. The color patterns, lighting, shapes, fine detail, and the way it all comes together at least from that one picture, really nice stuff!
This year's Winter Event ship - earnable by participating in the Winter Wonderland - is a fearsome Fek'Ihri Carrier, the Gok'tad. This powerful ship is a Tier 6 update to the classic Kar'fi Class.
The Fek'Ihri have returned to the galaxy in force with brand new ships over the past few years, but now they return to a classic design. The Gok'Tad takes the lessons these Klingon demons learned from the Kar'fi, and apply it to a fearsome new ship class.
I sincerely wish the trait boosted ALL damage instead of just weapon damage. I feel like there are no carrier traits that boost science abilities.
Thus, this is yet another Winter Event I will be skipping.
Question for someone with better memory than myself - have we ever had an event ship that is a 'full spec' T6 with all of the appropriate mechanics (such as Inspiration) or has that always been reserved for C-store (although the Support carriers were also lacking in this regard) and lockbox ships?
The new Winter wonderland ship looks a lot like the Kar'Fi
I am legit shocked that one of the last Klingons ships lacking a T6 version is finally getting one... Now if only we could get the T6 Dyson Destroyers.
I'm curious why they haven't done low hanging fruit like a T6 K'tanco and Kamarang, or a T6 K'tinga I don't have to deal with gamble boxes or ridiculous exchange prices to get would be nice. I think the lack of a T6 K'tinga chaps me the most, it was the backbone of the KDF for a good couple of centuries. And we can only get it from a damn gamble box.

No Event ship has been a full-spec ship. The only exception is the Risan Corvette, which has a Fleet variant that gives it full Pilot Spec. Cryptic said that was a one-off because it just felt wrong to have a Risan Corvette that's all about speed and all and not have access to Pilot maneuvers. But the general rule for event ship is that they are not full-spec ships.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

The Risian Corvette let you buy a version of it with full pilot maneuvers for a fleet module (and you needed to be in a fleet, which obnoxiously wasn't advertised.) They haven't done that again, and obviously the full pilot ship wasn't the one directly earned by the event.
I think that'll be workable for a few different layouts, though the Ensign Science is a bit disappointing (Ensign stations should always be Universal, IMO) and I'm not really into Command on a Science Carrier, even if 'thematically' it fits with commanding stuff. Temporal for more EPG based shenanigans, or Intel for a power surge or pseudo cloak would've been fun. The Support Carriers that were recently released are also Command, so kinda odd that they'd double up on Command based Carrier releases.
The Fek'Ihri Gok'tad Carrier comes with the Fiery Charge Universal Console equipped. Summoning all of the powers of Grethor, the Gok'tag fires three spectral, flaming chains, linking itself to the enemy ship and pulling itself in at high speed. As it rams through the enemy ship, it does a massive amount of fire damage. This console also provides a passive boost to fire damage and flight speed.
Sounds entertaining if nothing else. The red-hot poker looking things on the front do make it look like it should ram enemies.
Upon reaching level 5 in your Fek'Ihri Gok'tad Carrier, you unlock the Grethor's Weapons Starship Trait. While this trait is slotted, launching hangar pets gives your weapons additional fire damage, that scales with your enemy's missing hitpoints.
Re-reading this... What does this do? Is it a damage rider for energy weapons and/or torps, or is it just a boost for extremely few things that do fire damage? Do the consoles from this and the other Fek'Ihri ships even count as 'weapons'?

Yes, because why leave anything unattainable by feds. Next up. Fed BoPs and Negh'vars.

aside from the targs recently, i am also miffed that the klingon faction, OR, any klingon race based fed toon would be the only ones able to fly this/these ship(s).
many things are race locked and as such one would have thought the targs and Fek'lhri (spelling) ships would have been as well. i get it, its an event ship as well as the targs, but i also get why people have expressed some dismay over the cross faction availability to, oh yeah, feds...lol
oh well. i look forward to it and hope it will be as fun as the dread from last year.
Oh, more than a few of us have wanted a t6 Karfi since before the Year of KlingNONE ever kicked off. But the irony of throwing it in yet another event so everyone can get it is just more par for the course. Have to make sure the only time that something is unavailable to any race is when it is unavailable to KDF, not the inverse apparently. On the bright side, at least they weren't "randomly" handed out to players this time.

It sure feels that way. While I agree that some of the event ships/consoles/traits could get a buff so they aren't just useless fluff drowning in the meta I could also the the counterarguement that new players shouldn't be "punished" for being new by not having access to actual meta items. This needs to be carefully balanced and as we know that isn't exactly cryptic's strong suit. It's gotten somewhat better over the years but there are plenty of examples where stuff was either OP as f*ck or nerfed to hell.

Cough cough plasmonic leech
Yeah, a good example of a muste-have that was nerfed so hard that it's barely considered a gap filler nowadays. Still better than nothing or the plasma exploders. How those were treated was just mean.
I'm just wondering when the DPRM will finally be pummeled with the bat. They may not have problems with it "now" (like they didn't have with the leech for years) but one day it will happen.

What Vaadwaur event ship?
I think they mean the Krenim ship
Yes sorry about that XD
