I have allways read that the visual effect of the Aegis shield is blue for Federation characters and red for the Klingons. I have seen Fed ships with this blue neon effect on their ships (which I find beautiful) and I assumed they had the Aegis shield equipped. Lately I started to put the shields on some of my characters' ships for the visual but no matter on which char I use it, it doesn't show blue but just plain white. Is this a bug I have or is there anything I missed (I know the Aegis shields have been there for a long time until back to Memory Alpha)?

Aegis does indeed add blue glow strips. You possible could have your Bloom intensity too high, thereby washing out the glow strips. The actual shield bubble colour was made white years back, and it's the same regardless of faction. Factions used to have shield bubble colours of Blue for Fed, Red for KDF and Green for ROMs. Why they got rid of this is somewhat unknown, but probably a performance issue??
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Is the Aegis Engine like the Lifetime Subscriber material in that Fed get blue contrail, KDF get red, & do Rom get green? Don't suppose JH would get purple/pink then too?

For Roms the faction you sided with matters. If you are a Kling Rom its red if Fed Rom its blue

Thank you for the tip. I went to my graphics and changed the bloom intensity settings (currently I have them on 100 %) from zero to 500 %, but no change. After that I changed every possible parameter in the graphic settings, but it stays white. Well it's not the end of the world but I thought the blue would look good on certain ships. And btw. I tried it on a Klingon ship and it doesn't show red but more of an orange.

Set your Bloom to 20-30% regardless. This will reduce wash-out from glows.
I'll have to check myself regarding the Fed glow strips being white. Could be a bug, or could be you need to up the colour settings for your system. That being said, the blue glow is more a blue/white hue than blue for Fed Aegis.

Thanks, I will adjust my bloom. The glow that I saw on the other ships was a deep and saturated blue glow, less of a hue. Well maybe it wasn't from Aeagis then and I'm totally wrong.
When it comes to the color settings of my system, frankly speaking I have no clue where or how to up them Besides the Aegis the rest of the STO graphics are fine and I don't want to mess things up acidentally. So I think I'll make peace with it and for the two ships I have the shields equipped on I can live with the white But thanks again for your input.

It could be the Nukara or Lukari rep vanity shields. I looked through the vanity shields and the Nukara rep vanity shield and the Lukari vanity shield both give blue hues to ships.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

Wow, that is a shame. I wonder if it was just laziness or somehow applying more than 2 colors boggled Cryptic's collective minds & would glitch the game? They should really go back give minimal effort & apply Green for Roms & Pink/Purple for JHs.

The Aegis set has existed since before Roms were even a thing. It came out in like December 2010, and Roms didn't exist as a playable faction until 2013. I think it was like the first item set in the game.
Cool, thanks for the STO history lesson on the Aegis & the Roms, seriously, it adds some context but that doesn't negate that it would probably be real easy back in 2013 to even today to code-in the Roms & the JHs having specific colors too for the set. In my mind's eye it would even add to the relative factions' lifetime subscribber colorations if a player wanted to "space barbie" it up. Updating old things to look "prettier" seems to be much to Cryptic's liking too lately.
Aegis was around before the roms, and even before reps. the only thing like a rep at the time was getting the Omega parts. Rom, Nukara and Omega reps were being developed but Aegis was introduced for players who did not have the ability or fortitude to subject themselves to the elite borg task force operations in the scant hope of getting the salvaged tech bits to build Omega gear. Once rep gear was a thing there was no need to have craftable sets.
