Cannot talk in fleet or armada chat

The game since previous patch doesnt let me choose the Armada or the Fleet channel no matter the tab and despite the channels being active in settings. I even tried to remove all active channels but one each time and didnt work. Anyone else having same problems?
Edit: found a way to make it work but it is strange. I went to chat settings but instead and then hit the chat options button which took me to options that have nothing to do with the channel itself but its the profanity filter, time and date stamps etc. I didnt touch any of the options and I hit apply and suddently the options to speak on the channels were back
