AFK for playing the objective

So apparently, when you play Battle Of Procyon V and you fly around the battle closing the portals, utilizing de-aggro abilities so you can complete the optional objective, the game punishes you at the end.

I guess because I didn't shoot at/destroy enough enemy ships, the game flagged me as AFK. Bad enough the game flags me with a quitting penalty when the game crashes during map transitions to TFOs, but this is ridiculous.

I'm putting this here because it doesn't feel like a bug, just bad game design.

    Unfortunately you guessed correctly. That is exactly what happened to you.
    You must cross a minimum damage threshold in any TFO regardless of how sub-optimal it makes playing it.

    The system isn't perfect but it's better then nothing.

    Yes, you have to do damage, if you got AFK'ed then you did almost none at all. There is combat after you close the portals so not sure what you were doing during that part.

    Either way, sorry you're upset.. but best to just take a breath and remember for future runs. :smile:

    Not entirely true. He/she may not have had a chance due to the damage output of other players. I've watched people in "To Hell With Honor" practically one shot the reactors, even when all the shield generators are still alive.

    This mechanic, while theoretically awesome, is poorly implemented, like pretty much everything else in the game, or their forums.

    Case in point, I had to reload this page twice just to get the "Post Comment" button to appear.

    Yesterday I couldn't get onto the forums at all because their "hcaptcha" kept loading instead of the forums.

    Poor, lazy coding, which speaks about both the developers and the management.
    Cryptic has pretty much nothing to do with the code of the forums or the hcaptcha system as both of those are third party system.

    There's plenty of things you can blame Cryptic for but the coding for the forums isn't one those things.

    Yeah, I try to clear turrets while I'm going between shipyards. I do try to clear Gamma since that's where the giant walker spawns and fighting that with the wave of other ships/walkers is easier if you don't have turrets pecking you too.
    Now a LTS and loving it.
    Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
    I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

    I've done that in an Intrepid. Mega well+TS2 gravimetric or emissions torpedo,+isokinetic cannon makes most things go BOOM really fast. and if they survived all that, and I have timed my spread cooldown right, as I fly past the TS2 Neutronics fly. and also the pathetic Beam Overload, pathetic since I have no power to weapons hardly at all

    I just got hit by an AFK penalty after helping to close the Elachi gate in one of the Red Alert missions, because I (and another player) spent time doing exactly that - closing the gate. Yes, my ship was not moving, and I didn't shoot anybody - mostly because the last battle group was obliterated before I could rush into the fight - but I was pressing buttons and working on the objective.

    If I am able to help my team complete the mission faster, I don't think it's fair that I'm punished for this, even if it means I didn't shoot anybody.

    Even if the threshold is as small as it's being said it is, it's definitely stupid that the anti-AFK system only looks for damage dealt, and doesn't consider other factors like interactions that progress the mission.

    The AFK system needs to take into accounts objectives accomplished, healing, buffing, in addition to damage made as it only makes the whole "just go tac and focus on DPS" mentality persist.

    I'd love to see a semi-troll official queue with that improved system where all weapons slots and cloak are disabled and you can only rely on consoles, non-cloak stealth abilities, other damaging abilities, traits, healers and tanks to complete objectives. And to make it worth your time, as an incentive, it gives like 5 times the normal amount of marks and dilithium than other queues.
