Returning Player Ship Help

dcamsdcams Member Posts: 14 Arc User
I reinstalled STO today. I haven't played in a long long time. My char is a lvl 51 tactical commander. The ship I used to use is the Andorian Kumari Escort T5-U(I think the U is because I upgraded it). My build with that ship is DHC phasers. I love the DHC playstyle so my question is which T6 ship is the best for DHC? I think I will go with Disrupter damage as well if that matters, but I'll base it on the ship choice first.

There are so many ships out now that it is confusing for me to pick one. I seen there are T6 Andorian ships...which I would of just went with for now, but none of them show "can load cannons" on them.

Also I'm sure my Doff are horrible now too so thats the next thing Im sure I'll need to work on.
Any other tips for a returning player would be appreciated as well!

I cant find the edit button to add in...but I like going with glasscannon builds as well...if that makes a difference for ship choices

Yes the t6 Andorian ships can use DHCs.

You will probably want to get the t6 Defiant for its Starship Trait (Withering Barrage) which extends the duration of Cannon Scatter Volley.

Oh, when I look at the details on the ship in the store it doesnt show "can load cannons" like other ships do. Which ship would be better to play? are there any other ships with good traits I should think about getting?

Morrigu has a pretty much must have for energy dps build and can be made into a mean cannon boat. The defiant as mentioned also has a really good must have trait for cannon boats. So I would say start with either of those. Even if you hate the ship, those traits will be useful at least. Otherwise, you want to look for 5/3 or 5/2 weapon slot ships. The gagarin is a nice looking ship that is really strong. You will obviously need some turn rate items...but it is a decent platform for cannons. The trait is also good if you want to make canon ships with a torp.

The morrigu is the warbird in the C store? I like going 5/3 with the aft being turrets of my dmg type. How many ship traits can I use on a ship? And I don't see the defiant ship in the store

To note: starship traits are portable. You have to fly the appropriate ship to level 5 mastery to earn them, but once earned you can use them on any ship (even if it is not T6).

    Thats great!

    Thanks for the info.
So I can get the morrigu or the avenger/arbiter to unlock that ship trait?

Also I was looking at all the ships list on the sto wiki site. I seen the defiant legendary ship. Are you still able to buy that one?

Correct, either the Morrigu or the Fed Battlecruiser will get the same trait. The benefit of the Morrigu option is that it's also available to your KDF characters if you have any.

No... the Legendary ships can only be bought as part of the bundle & it is being made available only as a limited time deal... has been in the store 2 or 3 times now, most recently for one day last week. (It premiered as part of the 10th anniversary this past February).

ah ok. I dont have any KDF characters.

and damn I guess I it wont be back for awhile then if they just had it last week

Thanks for all the help. One more thing though, whats the best rep I should work on for disrupter DHC? Assuming the rep DHC would be the best

Thanks guys. I just need to pick a ship I want to use now. I got the other ships which I’m currently working on with lvling them up for the traits...seems to go slower then I thought

I see they have this big bundle that’s 30000 Zen....are the 3 ships it comes with all legendary ones?

I really want a ship for my cannon build thats 5/3 with a lot of tact consoles but it seems like the only ships that seem good for that setup are legendary. The defiant legendary is probably the best....but I don’t like how it looks lol

There are some good ships that aren't Legendary. The Gagarin Miracle Worker Battlecruiser is one of the best 5/3 cannon boats you can get and it's a regular C-Store Ship. The Arbiter Battlecruiser is another very powerful ship with a must have trait.

Other 5/3 choices are the Europa, one of the Andorian Pilot Ships, or one of the Pilot Escorts.

If you want something Bigger, remember that Romulan Ships are cross faction now so your fed/kdf can fly something like the Scimitar which remains one of the best 5/3 ships in the game. There are options.

If you use the patrols in the TFO menu you should be able to level up ships pretty quick - usually just several runs to unlock a ship's Tier 5 mastery trait. They give 3x the ship mastery xp as compared to other things in-game.

I've spent plenty of time in the Kinjer System quickly leveling up earned ships to unlock their traits, as most of the free ships which we've gotten from regular events aren't really design faves that I want to keep around other than for the trait or admiralty card; after that it is "bye-bye" for those vessels.

I can only guess you're looking at the choice bundle with the Amarie and the two Temporal ships as potential choices. That is not the Legendary bundle everyone talks about. The Amarie is quite good though.

That bundle is in Mudds market which is full of deliberately overpriced stuff. There are frequent sales on it and if you wanted those ships you should wait for one. If you did want it, you need to understand the bundle gives you 3 choices out of the 6 things on offer, 3 of those possible choices being the ships.

The actual Legendary bundle is only available rarely, and not normally for sale at any price.

I can't figure out how to do multiple quotes from different people

    Seaofsorrows,

I like the Andorian ships but they are only 5/2. The T5 one is what I used before I stopped playing years ago and I loved it. I will look into the other ships you mentioned though. Thanks

    Westmetals,

The bundle is the 3 choice bundle. I thought maybe they were legendary ships since the pack text had them highlighted in purple...compared to the normal white text for other bundles. Plus the price being so high as well too. But thanks for letting me know its not. Seems like a big waste for normal ships for that price

    Foxrockssocks,

Yup thats the bundle I was referring to. It seems really overpriced for just the choice of normal ships

everyone else who mentioned the patrols thanks! I'm going to try them now to see how it goes

Well, like many of the bundles they've been doing lately, it is in the eye of the beholder as to whether it is worth it or not. The Amarie is a very good escort type ship. The Verne and its counterparts are fantastic science ships, definitely among the best in the game due to the BOFF layout. The temporal destroyers are fun to play with too.

All of them are box ships, though, the kind that are normally very expensive and only unlock on a single character, while the bundle lets you have them for your entire account like any other cstore ship.

Like everything in Mudds shop, you should wait for a good sale, but the best one is probably the initial offering.
