What's the deal?

It's been 10 years. I have played on and off throughout them all. And you STILL have rubber banding. You STILL have disconnect issues. What the the hell dev's? Are you happy collecting money with a sub-par product till the end? Or are you going to get off your butts amd fix the issue?

Any dev's brave enough to answer my question? Absolutely ridiculous..

Had you actually paid attention through those years, you'd have learned what the problem is. And it isn't Cryptic, for the most part, save that they only have the one server farm (unlike many MMOs, with servers located around the world, who can work around issues like these).

For the most part, the rubberbanding issues tend to have to do with large numbers of people, and with a company called Akamai Technologies. Akamai makes an extremely popular piece of software designed to deal with DDoS (Directed Denial of Service) attacks by watching for the flood of server requests that typify such attacks, and slowing them to the point that the targeted server can deal with them. Unfortunately, the software doesn't seem to know the difference between a DDoS attack and MMO traffic, especially during special events, so when your packets pass through a node protected by Akamai, they sometimes get slowed down to "protect" the node. (Remember that you don't have a pipeline straight from your system to the Cryptic server farm in Massachusetts - you have to send packets across the net, sometimes through five or six nodes, like the rest of us.) It was first noticed, so far as I can determine, by players of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls Online; that gave us a vital clue in tracking it down.

And I really don't think the devs are going to bother answering this question again, particularly when presented in such a petulant tone.

It is however, Cryptic's fault in that they choose to use Akamai, rather than a more competent solution to the problem. It's not like they haven't had time to investigate.
