So, I'm looking for something that can handle missions solo. Equipment from missions, exchange, or even reputation. I have the Assault Cruiser, Breen Rezreth Dreadnought Cruiser, and Vulcan T'Pau Scout Ship. The two T6 ships are probably my best choices. I just don't know which energy type to go, beams or cannons, or which consoles and space sets. I haven't played in a while, and what I did use just isn't cutting it anymore. Just looking for something that I can use to farm reputation and resources until I can get Fleet or higher end reputation gear.
it just depends on you. there are people out there that can beat all the content on normal using tier 2-3 ships. tier 4 ships are doable, t5/5u ships should be doable for 90% of the players.
everything you have asked is purely your preference. what works for me may not work for you. if you want ideas, https://www.stoacademy.com/ is a good place to get ideas. as far as energy types, any will do, plasma is probably the hardest to get DPS up on. Phaser is the easiest. most min maxers prefer Antiproton.
I don't belong to a flet, and this build is over a hear old, but it could prove to be a basis for what you are doing.. I would not consider the T'Pau yet, sci majik builds can be tricky to pull off.
Energy type doesn't matter, but yes.. for a Fed.. Phaser will make things the easiest on you.
If you want some good build ideas for low budget builds, head on over to the Cheap DPS Builds page on the DPS League Site. These are cheap and easy builds that will clear anything you want story wise.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Some ideas for episode-replay mining for a phaser build:
- "Sunrise" (quantum phase set; all three pieces and the set bonuses are decent)
- "Beyond the Nexus" (trilithium set... the torpedo is kinda pointless but the 2pc bonus is good, suggest getting the omni + console)
- "Scylla and Charybdis" (the Bajor Defense set has a 2pc +Phaser / Disruptor / Plasma damage bonus... I would recommend doing it as impulse + shield)
- "Everything Old is New" (blue-quality TOS style (blue) phaser beam arrays) NOTE: an unlimited supply of self-scaling versions of these can also be sourced from repeat claiming and stripping the T1 Constitution Cruiser ship (if you have that Zen-unlocked). ALSO NOTE: same mission also awards blue-quality TNG-style (orange) phaser beam arrays, if you prefer them.
- "Surface Tension" ([Console - Tactical - Counter-Command Multi-Conduit Energy Relay]) - this console has a +Phaser and +Disruptor bonus, also part of an otherwise-reputation set with an additional bonus for these).
- "Of Signs and Portents" - ([Console - Tactical - Phaser Relay]) - generic tactical consoles for the rest of your tactical console slots (or all, if you bypass Surface Tension).
This list should provide all the ship equipment you need except for a deflector, warp core, about half of your consoles, and your devices and (if applicable) hangar or experimental weapon slots.
Notably, Sunrise, Beyond the Nexus, Everything Old is New, and Of Signs and Portents are all fairly ground-focused and don't have very much space combat. So are great for farming with a bad build.
If you use one of the DPS League Builds, they have the suggested Skill Tree filled in already.
This is my usual template for a Tactical Captiain. This template is for Tacs that don't use torpedoes. If you do use Torps, you can take out 1 point of Advanced Targeting Expertise and take 2 points out of Improved Defensive Maneuvering and put those 3 points into Projectile Weapon Training.
Feel free to move points around as you see fit, it's just general template. It's complete with Space and Ground allocations.
