Hi
I've been trying to get that rocket toy of the Phoenix launching you get for participating in the First Contact Day Event for like, Forever now and every dam time it comes around it seems like there is always something that comes up that prevents me from participating. This time my original Radeon Graphics card took a TRIBBLE and a friend gave me this Alienware GeForce GTX 555 card to use because she knew that I can't afford to replace my original card right now. Sounds great right?
Not!! Why? Because my machine is all AMD based. From it's Black Edition 5450 8 Core CPU to it's Northbridge and Southbridge chipsets both being AMD and they just do not play well with nVida based graphics!! (no pun intended of course), well, maybe a lil, lol. Support and I have been working the problem and so far haven't been able to make it work. In addition I have my ppl from another game I work closely wioth also working on the problem which, 2 years ago we did manage to help some ppl out who were in a similar situation although I'm not sure if both of their chipsets were also AMD like mine are. They are looking for the fix we used but it will take time as I said, it was 2 years ago which brings me to the point of this post.
While I'm still hoping to get on and be able to play the new mission and the First Contact and get my own Rocket I was hoping that someone out there who already has one of their own would help a girl out just in case I miss it AGAIN and get this thing for me? Unless it can't be traded I don't know. I've never seen one on the Exchange? I just don't want to miss it again and watch all you guys during this summer event launching yours on Risa and I gotta sit back looking like an idiot again, lol.
the easiest way would be to use the buyout option. with whatever grafic card you're using you should be able to log in, even onboard grafic is enough to play sto, you will just play with downscaled graphic
I can only get in game for about a minute or two then guess what?........CRASH!!!! And this is wherever I have the game graphics set at. Rules to live by: When building gaming PC's, Never mix nVida Graphics cards with AMD CPU's especially if your motherboards chipsets are also AMD like mine. They don't play well together!!.
My Gamer doesn't have onboard graphics.
Well, it was worth a try. But if they are bound I guess I'm gonna miss it again.
Odd, i have an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 with a GTX 1660 Ti, and have no problems at all... i even configure an old AMD A6 (that have 2 years) with a GTX 960 two weeks ago and is working like a charm...
Have you tried reducing all hardware settings to stock clocks? An overclock that worked fine with your Radeon card + drivers might fail running the nvidia card + drivers.
My problem will be solved soon by proxy. I just ordered a Gigabyte RX 470 Radeon GDDR5 G1 Graphics card off of ebay that I should have before this coming Thursday.
Some good news. I loaded Win 10 on one of my laptops, plugged it into my big screen (my gamers) and loaded STO on it and was able to play last night!, Yay! I was able to play the new mission, the First contact Rocket launch mission (although I didn't get no Rocket ) It did feel good to be able to play though.
How many times do ya have to play that Rocket launch mission to get the Rocket anyways? As I said, Tho I've been playing since release. Since First Contact Day came to be a thing something always came up to stop me from playing it, until now so it's my 1st time. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh, was able to get my Borg pack too, Yay! again!!

Thanks, I sincerely appreciate the info. If I don't get to play enough times I'll use the buyout feature. My problem now isn't the graphics card. it's keeping this room. I'm on disability and if I don't get that stimulus check soon I might be living out of my truck for a while. So time will tell. This is why although I am a Republican I am not a Trump fan. The man does things constantly to take things away from and hurt people like me on Government programs and Social Security Disability.
