How to use ground weapons secondary firing ability?

So, I've spent at least an hour trying to find specific details on how to trigger, swap, or otherwise use ground weapon's secondary firing abilities, but no luck. All I can find is general information that the "face buttons" on the controller are used to swap these abilities. But no clear instructions on how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The assimilated Undine is kicking my TRIBBLE$.

Never mind. I found the controller layout in the game. But, hey, now I just need to figure out how to set the abilities from the wheel. I am in space dock, but the R1 and R2 buttons are deactivated. I cannot hold them to assign abilities. Is there some place special I need to be to do this? Can I only do this when I am in a ground mission? Boy, I wish I knew some friends who played this game. Would be nice to have some live help now and then.
