World Exploration/Housing

Is there a way to beam back down to random planets throughout the different quadrants?
I like how sometimes we could beam down to planets whilst on "patrol"... can this be done anytime I want?
I would really like to explore and survey more than constant fighting.

Also, is it possible to display objects in game like say drop a rifle or ship part and see it in game? I like to decorate. I assume our ships are like "housing" instances... can we drop a bottle of Chateau Picard and put it on a desk in our ready room or a cup of earl Grey tea?

Thanks.

It is not possible to do those things in-game. Though your first suggestion would be cool if done right. Personally, I am glad that Star Trek Online is not the Sims. I would be more be in favor of better ship tailor functionality and more possibilities for kit-bashing than anything else.

Kit-bashing means being able to put different ship parts that belong to other ships in order to create a customized ship that is different from the default that one owns or purchases. For example, having a Constitution class and being able to use ship parts from say the Discovery Connie or the Kelvin Timeline Constitution. That is an example whether that is currently achievable in-game or not, I do not know. Hope that helps and welcome to Star Trek Online and the Star Trek Online community. Please enjoy your stay. :)

I see, that does sound cool. I like the idea of customized ships.
Thank you for the welcome. :D

Both is not possible (anymore) sadly.

Back then you could enter star clusters (yes, the ones where you can do DOFF missions nowadays) and do some random missions there. You could beam down a planet and scan plants for example or encounter alien ships which would attack the ship (yay, nothing new there, lol)
Nevertheless i always enjoyed the exploration clusters, but the devs decided that it didn't match their desired quality standard they where aiming at that time.
Although there was some occasional fighting, there was always the possibility for a peaceful type of mission without too much reading or dialog in general.
On the other hand i understand the devs intention, but removing Exploration was the wrong way to go in my opinion. They should have EXPANDED it, because it was the only thing in the game that felt remotely like Star Trek at all.

More customization you ask? I'm very much in favour of things like that! :)
That's actually most of the fun in the game to me, especially the ship customization. But sadly most (starfleet) ships they make lately are flagrant ugly (see the miracle worker cruisers, yuck)

Interiours are difficult tbh., because there's not much to do in the game. So people rarely ever visit them and because of that, the devs seeming have no interest to put lots of manhours of work into it, if they can create some new ships with better stats that sell much better in the same time. :/

    yreodred,
Agreed my friend. That does sound like it would've been my cup of tea so to speak. My favourite part of Star Trek has always been the exploration - "to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before." Yes, indeed.

Sadly, making alternate parts for ships seems to be something Cryptic doesn't really care about anymore. Most of the T1-T5 ships have 2-4 different looking ships that you can mix and match parts. Most of the new ships have 1. And with the new Vanity Shields, that seems to be the direction they are heading. I assume that is much easier than making extra ship parts.

A few year ago I suggested expanding the 'Trophy Mechanic' to allow several more options to add more Rugs, Paintings, Artifacts, Musical Instruments, and even allow changing various Chairs, Tables, Desks, or several other Furniture.

I'm honestly surprised they haven't allowed a bit more customization of Ship Interiors not only using the 'Trophy Mechanic' already in place; since several items could be purchasable with Gold Pressed Latinum.

It would also be nice if they expanded a bit more of the Ship Interior Textures, to include customization of Colors/Shades, Lighting/Brightness, and allow more customized general floor or wall textures based upon the Deck.

But nothing has ever been done, which I think is a shame, as several Faction Starships are like home; so it be nice to customize not only the Captain Ready Room/Quarters more, but also several of the bridge crews quarters as well.

strathkin, I agree. I'm sorry they didn't listen to you, it would've added a lot to the game.
